Seven members of the South Prairie FFA represented their chapter at the State Winter Career Development Event (CDE) held at the North Dakota State Fair Center March 24. This prestigious competition brought together approximately 687 students from across North Dakota to compete in various contests, showcasing their skills and knowledge in different agricultural disciplines.

In the Livestock Evaluation CDE, participants work in teams to rank breeding and market classes of beef, sheep and swine, providing justifications for their selections. This event helps students develop keen observation skills, recognize important livestock traits and make informed decisions that benefit both consumers and producers. South Prairie had two members compete in this event:

– Amber Braasch, Gold

– Ella Novak, Bronze

The Agricultural Sales CDE focuses on the marketing and production of agricultural products. Teams of four create a sales plan based on a provided product and customer profiles, demonstrating their ability to collaborate effectively. Additionally, participants take a written exam to assess their sales knowledge.

The Agronomy CDE tests students’ understanding of crop production and management. Participants evaluate real-world agronomic scenarios, develop crop management plans, analyze soil and plant types, assess commodity quality and demonstrate pest management skills. A written knowledge exam further challenges their expertise in this critical agricultural field.
