Kellogg chips in with 4 RBIs in loss to Concordia-Saint Paul
ST. PAUL, MN — The Minot State Beavers, now 13-7 in conference, fell twice Sunday to the University of Concordia-Saint Paul Golden Bears. Offensively, Paige Kellogg stood out in both games by getting MSU on the board in the first game and sending out a grand slam in the second game. The Beavers will now prepare for this weekend, where they will take on Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
GAME 1: Concordia-Saint Paul 5,
Minot State 3
MSU fell 5-3 in a nine-inning matchup to the Concordia-Saint Paul Sunday.
Senior Reegan Floyd (13-6) got the ball to start for Minot State (25-17, 13-6) and took the loss. The right-hander went 8.2 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on 12 hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to junior Paige Kellogg’s RBI double with one out.
The Golden Bears then tied the ballgame at one before the Beavers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Freshman Sarah Misner came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Beavers.
Minot State’s lead had evaporated by the time the seventh inning came around and turned into a 3-2 Concordia-Saint Paul advantage, when the Beavers tied up the game at three. The Beavers recorded a run on junior Sara Van Wickler’s leadoff home run off senior Erica McCullough. Concordia-Saint Paul then scored two times over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 5-3 win.
GAME 2: Concordia-Saint Paul 6,
Minot State 5
Junior Paige Kellogg racked up four RBIs, but the Minot State Beavers fell to the Golden Bears 6-5 on Sunday.
Junior Calley Olson (1-2) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (25-18, 13-7) and took the loss.
Kellogg went 2-for-4 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Beavers. Freshman Sarah Misner furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Senior Abbey Kelley also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Misner put Minot State on the board with a one-out solo home run off sophomore Emmy Bowne.
The Golden Bears expanded their lead to 4-1 before the Beavers offense got back to work, taking the lead in the fifth. Minot State got a grand slam from Kellogg to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Beavers. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Concordia-Saint Paul scored two times over the remaining two innings to grab the 6-5 win.
