MSU softball finishes spring break games with sweep
BRANSON, Mo. — The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers swept a pair of games to finish off spring break beating Washburn 1-0 and Missouri S&T 2-0. Minot State (12-11 overall) next hosts a double header against Wayne State College to start conference play.
MSU 1, Washburn 0
Senior Reegan Floyd was dealing on Thursday, throwing a one-hit shutout to lead the MSU Beavers past the Washburn Ichabods 1-0.
Floyd (6-3) went the distance for MSU (11-11), giving up one hit, walking one and striking out seven.
At the plate, the Beavers were paced by junior Taylor Smith, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double. Freshman Sarah Misner compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Beavers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Misner, scoring junior Paige Kellogg from second base.
MSU 2, Missouri S&T 0
Senior Jasmine Blizzard and junior Calley Olson combined to toss a shutout on Thursday as the Minot State Beavers blanked the Missouri S&T Miners 2-0.
Blizzard (4-4) started and picked up the win for MSU (12-11), going six shutout innings while giving up two hits, walking one, and striking out two. Olson was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
The Beavers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. MSU got an RBI single from junior Anna LaCount, scoring junior Sara Van Wickler from second base.
The Beavers then tacked on a run in the fifth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame. That run scored on Van Wickler’s one-out RBI double.
