Majette gymnasts take third at state

JAMESTOWN – The Dickinson Midgets claimed their tenth straight state title at the 2024-2025 NDHSAA State Girls Gymnastics Meet on Saturday, March 1, with a top score of 151.433 while the hosts from Jamestown took second place with a 146.833 and the Majettes won third place with a 143.100 team score.

Friday was the team competition while individual competition was on Saturday. Dickinson’s Aspen Roadarmel was the top all-around scorer in the individual competition. Minot High head coach Robbie Werchau was voted the 2024-2025 Coach of the Year at the state meet. The All State team will be announced this week.

The Minot High girls had the same type of injury issues at the state meet as they had experienced for the duration of the season- and fought through the issues to compete where they could.

“To compete on Saturday, the girls had to qualify. They qualify by being ranked in the top 40 on an event, and in the top 30 in the all around. Minot had 8 individual qualifiers in at least one event,” said Werchau. “Out of those 8 qualifiers, five of them qualified in the all around. Keira Davis, Pavyn Peterson, Gracyn Bergan, Lexi McLeod, and Adylin Belnap qualified for ‘all around.’ Macey Blake qualified on bars and floor. She was unable to compete on floor because she had broken her toe on Friday night during her beam routine. She was able to do bars. Lakiyn Halverson qualified on bars, beam, and floor. She was unable to do floor because she had sprained her ankle during her floor routine on Friday night. She completed her floor routine but on Saturday she did bars and beam.Cadence Bagi qualified and competed on bars.”

With the individual competition on Saturday, many of the Majettes were in different groupings and had the chance to watch and cheer for each other. That normally has not been the case in dual meets or smaller events.

“Adylin Belnap was our most consistent competitor on both days. She finished in 8th place on bars with a 9.083, 11th on beam with a 9.267, 14th on floor with a 9.183, and 8th in all around with a 36.2,” said Werchau. “Gracyn Bergan had a good meet as well. She posted her best bars and beam scores of the season with a 9.1 for 6th place on bars and a 9.533 for 2nd on beam. She was 8th on vault with a 9.267, and 7th in all around with a 36.417. Keira Davis had a big day on vault and floor. She scored a 9.517 on vault for 4th place and a 9.65 on floor for 4th place. She was 15th on bars with a 8.7 and 13th in all around with a 35.717. Pavyn Peterson earned her highest floor score this season with a 9.467 for 6th place.”

The Majettes placed in the top three in each event but the Balance Beam (5th) and Floor (4th) at the team meet. The Majettes finished 2.733 out of second place overall and just .200 above Bismarck Century in fourth place – all while battling injuries at the state meet.

“I was so proud of all of the girls! They proved to themselves and everyone else that they have a competitive spirit and desire to be successful,” said Werchau.
