Division A Boys: Firebirds roll past Lakers, 73-49

BISMARCK — The Devils Lake Firebirds caught fire against the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers and never looked back, defeating the Lakers 73-49 in the quarterfinal round of the Division A NDHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament.
The Firebirds opened the game by outscoring the Lakers 24-7 in the first quarter and built a 41-15 halftime lead.
The Lakers came out of the halftime locker room with more energy, outscoring the Firebirds 25-19 in the third quarter. The Firebirds closed out the game by outscoring the Lakers 13-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Firebirds had three players finish in double figures. Mason Palmer and Joel Nelson each scored 19 points for Devils Lake. Parker Brodina scored 18 points in the win.
For the Lakers, Colton Feller led all scorers with 29 points in the loss.
Shiloh Skyhawks 74, Wahpeton Huskies 54
BISMARCK — The Shiloh Skyhawks turned a one-point game after the first quarter, 16-15, into a blowout, going on a 20-10 run in the second quarter en route to a 74-54 win over Wahpeton in the quarterfinal round of the Division A NDHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament.
The Skyhawks outscored the Huskies 38-29 in the second half. Shiloh had five players score in double figures, led by Wyatt Westin with 17 points. Carson Quam added 15, Triston Griess 13, Caden Englund 12 and Dawson Davis 11.
For the Huskies, three players scored in double figures: Brayden Steffens finished with 14 points, Bjorn Kubela 11 and Treyton Mauch 10.
Shiloh will face Devils Lake in the semifinal round today.
Kindred Vikings 73, Beulah Miners 50
BISMARCK — The Kindred Vikings jumped out to an 18-10 first-quarter lead against Beulah and never looked back, winning 73-50 in the quarterfinal round of the Division A NDHSAA boys basketball state tournament.
The Vikings took a 33-18 lead into halftime and led by as many as 29 points, 65-36. Kindred had four players score in double figures, led by Brooks Bakko with 17 points. Jakob Starcevic added 13, and Presley Peraza and Izaak Spelhaug each added 10 in the win.
For the Miners, Braylen Schirado led all scorers with 24 points and Benny Schirado added 15.
Kindred will play the winner of the Thompson-Killdeer game, which finished after deadline.
