St. Mary’s edges out Minot High grapplers in Bismarck action

BISMARCK – The Minot High boys wrestling team made the trip to Bismarck to take on a fellow Pool B program at St. Mary’s. In a back and forth dual with lead changes and extra points in matches being critical, the home team took the 37-28 win over the visiting Magi.

Jack Combs for Minot High took a 13-10 decision at 107-pounds to start the scoring for the Magi. St. Mary’s took the next two matches. Elijah Rogers lost by tech fall 16-1 at 114-lbs while Tayven Blackaby dropped a close match at 121 by 6-4 decision for the hosts to lead 8-3.

Korbin Kraft at 127-lbs took a 17-9 major decision for the Magi to make the score 8-7 for the hosts. Again, Minot High traded a win for two losses as Kaden Philion was pinned at 133 while Ty Burton suffered the same fate at 139 for St. Mary’s to push their lead to 20-7 over Minot High.

Kaden Kraft at 145 took a 14-2 major decision for four team points. For the third time in the dual, St. Mary’s posted two wins to the Magi’s one. Scott Triplett was pinned at 152 while Benjamin Hartman was pinned at 160 to increase the hosts lead to 32-11 at that point.

Noah Bledsoe at 172 posted an 18-0 tech fall for Minot High. Evan Berg at 189 suffered a tech fall defeat to leave St. Mary’s up 37-16 with two weight classifications remaining.

Tucker Nelson won by pin at 215 for Minot High while Lincoln Brooks did the same at 285 for the final team score of 37-28 in the end.

Both teams sit at 3-2 in Western Dakota Association (WDA) Pool B duals mark, along with Mandan. Bismarck High sits atop Pool B with a 4-0 record with Turtle Mountain Community and Jamestown trailing the others in pool standings.

The 2025 WDA Dual Championships are scheduled for Saturday, February 8, with the West Region Tournament the next Saturday, February 15.
