Sentinels take home another win against Dickinson

The Minot North Sentinels hosted the Dickinson Midgets for a night of girls basketball. This was the second time two teams had competed against one another. The first game between the Sentinels and the Midgets resulted in Minot North picking up its first victory of the season at Dickinson High School. The Sentinels worked hard and pulled off their second win against the Midgets. Minot North took the 89-67 home victory over Dickinson.

The Sentinels Aven Kelly and the Midgets Jenna Nelson jumped for the first possession. Dickinson won the jump for possession and immediately scored via Abby Praus. The Sentinels immediately retaliated.

Elli Laskowski led the scoring for Minot North and brought in 13 points in the first half of the game. Ashley Williamson for the Sentinels followed with 11 more points. The Sentinels maintained a growing lead through the first half of the game.

The Midget’s Lauren Selle brought in nine points, the most for Dickinson in the first half. Jenna Nelson made seven points for the visiting Midgets. Dickinson quickly fell behind. Liyah Zapstopil tried to combat the Sentinels’ lead with four more points for the Midgets.

Kinzey Walstad with 11 points grew the gap for the Sentinels. With seven more points from Gracen Rorem and three final points from Kelly the Sentinels took the first half of the game.

Minot North started the second half of the game with a 43-27 lead over Dickinson. Laskowski helped the Sentinels sustain their lead with 11 points early in the second half. Kelly and Nelson together brought in five additional points for Minot North.

The Midgets owed the second half of the game to Selle. Selle made a very impressive run on the basket scoring 24 points for Dickinson in the second half of the game. These additional 24 points brought Selle’s total for the game up to 33 points.

Emily Dutke and Praus each brought in six points for the Midgets to try to shorten the growing gap. With four final points from Nelson and Zastopil Dickinson ended the second half of the game with 67 total points.

Laskowski went back to the basket for the Sentinels and brought in eight more points. Welstad with ten and Williamson with nine points secured Minot North the 89-67 win over Dickinson.

The Lady Sentinels will travel to Mandan Tuesday, February 4 before hosting two more games. Minot North will host St. Mary’s Friday, February 7 game starting at 6 p.m. and will host Watford City Thursday, February 13 game starting at 6 p.m.

Surrey 62, Our Redeemer’s 54

The Surrey girls basketball team hosted the Lady Knights from Our Redeemer’s and defended their homecourt with the win. The Lady Mustangs move to 11-5 and are on a four game win streak.

Surrey will be at Parshall today followed by a road trip to Bishop Ryan on Monday, February 3, for their next two games.

Our Redeemer’s fall to 8-9 for the year. The Lady Knights host Bishop Ryan today followed by a road trip to Central McLean on Friday, February 7, for their next games.

Glenburn 38, Bishop Ryan 21

The Lady Panthers traveled to play the Lady Lions at the Den in Minot. The win for Genburn aided in the log-jam between the two teams and Our Redeemer’s at the fifth, sixth and seventh spots in the District 6 standings as the season winds down.

Rebounding was the difference maker in the game between the two big cats. Glenburn kept Bishop Ryan from second chance points or attempts by snagging the rebounds.

Glenburn beat Our Redeemer’s earlier in the week. With the win at Bishop Ryan, the Lady Panthers move to 8-8 while the Lions drop to 5-10 for the season.

Glenburn hosts Powers Lake-Burke Central on Monday, February 3, and Kenmare-Bowbells on Friday, February 7, in their next two games.

Bishop Ryan travels to Our Redeemer’s today, hosts Surrey on Monday and travels to Tioga on Thursday, February 6, in a busy week of action.
