Signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play college sports and attend a school is always a significant moment for any student-athlete. Karl Behm, a senior at South Prairie-Max, is no different.
Behm, who graduates this spring, inked his NLI to play football for the Falcons of Concordia University of Wisconsin this fall.
“I am very excited to continue my studies and have the chance to play football,” said the senior Behm. “I enjoyed the school, people and the environment. Their linebacker room gives me the opportunity to compete for playing time as a true freshman.”
The future Falcon said his favorite class in high school was any science class he has had. While finding a school to attend took some time, knowing what to study was less unlikely.
“I want to study for a pre-chiropractic undergraduate degree,” said Behm. “Four years for the undergraduate and another three years for the graduate degree- school is not over for me yet.”
With at least seven more years of education, time will tell if he starts a practice in South Prairie or elsewhere. One thing is certain, the first four years will be in Wisconsin.
How does one become on the recruiting radar of a school from the Northern Athletics College Conference?
Networking is the single word answer.
“I was at the NDSU (North Dakota State University) football combine camp and the Concordia coaches were there,” said Behm. “The recruiting process picked up at that point and here we are today.”
Football starts on August 13 and the family is preparing to split time supporting Jameson, a sophomore now, who plays for the Royals on the gridiron and his older brother in Wisconsin this fall.
“We will be traveling a lot this fall,” said mom – Amynda Behm. “We are excited, but we will rack up the miles for sure.”
