MSU men sweep Ohio University on road, prep for postseason play

ATHENS COUNTY, OH – The No. 1 ranked Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team finished the regular season with a series sweep over No. 3 Ohio University with a 3-2 win in game two on Sunday, February 16.

The Beavers finish the regular season with an impressive 33-2-3 record, while Ohio University falls to 17-4-3 on the season.

Ohio University opened up the scoring at 17:59 into the first period on a power play goal scored by Nolan Abraham to take a 0-1 lead. The Beavers were held scoreless throughout the first period by Ohio’s goalie, Max Karlenzig, who tallied 9 saves on 9 shots on goal.

Just 14 seconds into the second period, Minot State tied the game at 1-1 on a goal scored by

Trenton Curtis. At 6:19 into the period, Ohio retook the lead on a power play goal scored by Drake Nabozny to make the score 1-2.

At 11:09 into the period, MSU tied the game at 2-2 on a goal scored by Colby Joseph. At 13:42 into the period, the Beavers took their first lead of the game on a goal scored by Jay Buchholz to make it a 3-2 game.

MSU’s 3-2 lead would prove to be enough as the Beaver’s goalie, William Dyke, shut down Ohio University in the third period, tallying six saves on six shots on goal to secure the victory.

Joey Moffatt (2), Jay Buchholz, Christian Kadolph and Trenton Curtis were credited with assists in the game. Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 32 saves on 34 shots on goal to secure the victory, improving his record to 12-0-1.

Following the series sweep over Ohio University, the Beavers will be back in action in Normal, Illinois, for the MCH tournament. Game times are currently TBA, but the tournament runs from Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23.
