Minot High girls gymnastics host ‘Boys in Blue’ home tournament
Wearing blue leotards in honor of Minot police officers, the Minot High girls gymnastics team had ten teams show for the event and took third behind Dickinson and Jamestown despite two of their team being sick for the event.
Dickinson posted a 148.275 for fist place, Jamestown was second with a 142.250 score while the hosting Majettes recorded a 138.1 mark for third place.
Minot High had Payvn Peterson finish third in the all around with a 36.050 score while Belnap was sixth with a 35.1 mark. Junior Keira Davis and Sophomore Gracyn Bergan didn’t compete due to sickness. Several athletes worked on new events for the meet.
“Every single one of them did at least one new skill, and they were all successful!,” said Minot High head coach Robbie Werchau. “Junior Pavyn Peterson, Sophomores Lexi McLeod, Macey Blake, and Laikyn Halverson, and Freshman Amaya White all did new tumbling passes on floor. Freshman Cadence Bagi and seventh grader Adylin Belnap did new skills on bars, and Lexi added another new skill on beam. At this point in the season, that’s impressive. The girls have continued to work hard to add these new skills and it’s paying off. I couldn’t be more proud of them!”
On the bars, Adylin Belnap and Peterson posted the top scores for Minot High with 8.7 and 8.6 respectively. Lexi McLeod had a 9.225 for seventh place on the beam. Pavyn posted a 9.2 for eighth place just behind her. Pavyn was also fifth in the floor with a 9.25 while Belnap was sixth with a 9.15 score.
“The season is winding down,” said Werchau. “[The] WDA [meet] is February 21st in Dickinson and the state meet is February 28-March 1st in Jamestown. My goal is to have all of the girls healthy and ready to compete. That hasn’t happened yet this season. Injuries and illness have kept us from competing to our full potential. I’m excited to see how we do when that happens!”
