Minot High girl grapplers ready for WDA, State Tournaments
The Majettes finished in second place of the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings as the girls wrestling regular season concluded Thursday. Minot High posted a 6-1 record, only behind Bismarck Legacy’s 7-1 record and tied with Bismarck High’s 6-1 record.
Minot High won the tie-breaker with a dual win over the Demons on December 12 with a 38-34 score on the road.
The Majettes finished their season with a 50-24 dual win on the road at Dickinson on Thursday, February 6.
At 100-pounds, Brooklyn Ost won by technical fall with a 16-0 score for the five team points and the lead. Monica Boakye at 106, Khylie Schlotz at 112 and Madisyn Racine at 118 each won by pin for six points each and the 23-0 Minot High lead.
Haleigh Carr at 130 added three points for the Majettes with a 10-3 decision. Payton Russell at 136, Riley Hansen at 142, Alexia Schwanz at 155 and Jade’ence Fletcher at 250 each added six points for pins in their matches.
Aaliyah Laboy was pinned by Ember Waters from Dickinson at 124 for the Lady Midgets first team points. Clancey Meyer at 148 pinned Claire Fegley for the only other mat win for the hosts. The Midgets took six point wins by forfeit at 170 and 190 due to the Majettes lack of competitors at those weight classes.
The 2024-25 West Region Individual Tournament will be held on Friday, February 14, and hosted by Watford City. The meet will be held at the Rough Rider Center.
The top eight placewinners in the 13 respective weight divisions will qualify for the Class A Individual Tournament.
