Majettes, Magi both take road wins over Demons

BISMARCK – The Minot High girls basketball team found themselves on the road Friday evening, January 31, in a matchup against another team receiving votes in Division AA state polls.

The Lady Demons hosted the Majettes as the latest team to try for a win over the top ranked team in the state polls. Bismarck High will have to regroup and retry for the upset as the visitors won 71-65 on the road.

The win moved Minot High to 13-1 overall with a 9-1 Western Dakota Association (WDA) mark atop the standings. Mandan sits at second in the WDA standings with a 9-2 WDA mark and 12-2 overall.

Bismarck High drops to 6-5 in WDA play and 8-6 overall in nearly a dead heat with St. Mary’s Century and Williston. Bismarck Legacy are at third in the WDA ranks at 8-3, 11-3 overall.

Minot High travels to Williston on Tuesday, February 4, then to Dickinson on Friday, February 7, for their next pair of WDA games.

Minot High 83, Bismarck High 79

The Minot High boys basketball team traveled to Bismarck High to face a reflection of themselves as both the Magi and the Demons were tied at No. 2 in the state polls going into the game. Minot High edged the hosts to lay claim to the No. 2 ranking for themselves.

The win moved Minot High into sole possession of the second slot in the WDA standings for the boys with a 9-2 WDA mark and 12-2 overall record. Bismarck High dropped to 8-3 in WDA play and 11-3 overall. Both teams were chasing Bismarck Century atop the standings with an 11-1 WDA mark and 14-1 overall record.

Mandan, Dickinson and Bismarck Legacy are all at 7-4 in WDA play and 10-4 overall.

Minot High travels to Williston on Tuesday followed by a road trip to Dickinson on Friday next week.

Bismarck High will travel across town to play Legacy on Tuesday followed by a road trip to Williston on Friday next week.
