Magicians win pool dual battle in Mandan
– The Braves hosted the Magicians in a Western Dakota Association (WDA) boys swim and dive dual on Friday, January 31, and the visiting team from Minot High took the 114-72 win over the hosts in Mandan.
The tone was set in the first event- the 200-yard medley relay- where the Minot High team of Carter Carson, Peter Wake, Jon Folk and Andrew Francis posted a 1:45.41 time for the win. The same first place finish was achieved by the 200 freestyle relay team of Larson, Gavin King, Luke Neumann and Logan Hill with a time of 1:36.18 at the dual.
Mandan did take first in the 400 freestyle relay – by .69 seconds – as the team of Hill, Caden Brey, Neumann and Barrett Hannegrefs posted a 3:37.86 time for second place.
Hill took two first place finishes in individual events. He won the 200 freestyle with a 1:55.53 mark as well as 100 butterfly with a 57.49 time. Francis and Hannegrefs were second and third respectively in the 100 butterfly for a Minot High sweep of the top three spots.
Brey took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.07, a state qualifying mark. Wake took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.42 mark while Tyler Burns was second in the same race.
Taysom Solper took top billing in the 1-meter diving event with a 236.10 score. Neumann placed second for the Magicians in the 200 individual medley with a 2:15.31 with Jaxon Dobbs in third in the same event.
Larson took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.96 while Neumann was third at 53.26 in the same race. King was the top finisher for Minot High in the 500 freestyle with a 5:37.40 time for third place.
Fargo Davies makes a stop at Minot High for a non-conference dual on Friday, February 7, for the Magicians next pool session.
