Magi, Morelli celebrate final home game

One-minute and 57-seconds into the home game against the Williston Coyotes and the Minot High boys hockey team- and Mackley Morelli- had plenty to cheer about. Morelli scored four goals in the first period of play enroute to the 9-1 win on senior night during the final game of the 2024-2025 season.

The Magicians had the 1-0 lead 29-seconds into the game with Morelli hitting the net from Hudson Cope and Carter Coleman passes. While the PA system was echoing the results of the first score, Morelli found the net again at the 1:41 mark. Minot High had the 2-0 lead with Easton Panasuk and Rylan Roteliuk on the assists.

The PA system was still giving details on the second goal when Morelli took passes from Panasuk and Roteliuk for his hat trick at the 1:57 mark and the Coyotes were in shock. The first three goals were all at even strength.

Roteliuk scored on a power play at the 6:51 mark with Aidan Diehl and Teegan Strand on the assists. The Magicians were skating out of their minds with energy and momentum and the Coyotes began to get somewhat chippy, earning penalties. Even the officials were getting knocked onto the ice and over the rail into the benches during the middle minutes of play in the first period.

Morelli found the net for his fourth goal of the first at the 16:34 mark with Roteliuk and Panasuk on the assists for the 5-0 lead. The fourth Morelli goal was again at even strength. Minot High had 30 shots on goal in the first period. Williston had three. The Coyotes had five penalties in the first period while the Magicians had one.

The second period kicked off the same as the first with Strand hitting the net at the 1:57 mark on a power play goal. Morelli added the assist to his stat sheet for the 6-0 lead. At the 6:49 mark, Cope scored with Coen Schmeighel and Jayce Lemon on the assists for Minot High to take the 7-0 lead.

Morelli added a fifth goal at the 7:27 mark to his stat line on a power play goal with Panasuk and Roteliuk again on the assists for the 8-0 lead. Cole Richeson added a power play goal at the 16:05 mark with Oliver Thompson on the assist for the Magicians to hold the 9-0 lead at the end of the second period of play.

Minot High had 27 shots on goal compared to one for Williston in the second period. Williston had four penalties in the second compared to none for Minot High.

The Coyotes scored one goal in the third period at the 10:50 mark with Minot High recording seven shots on goal compared to Williston with four shots. Williston had two penalties in the third period compared to four for Minot High.

Devon Keller guarded the net for the Magicians with six saves on six shots while Maxim Hall enjoyed some time in net for Minot High and had one save on two shots faced.

With the win Minot High moved to 15-1-0-0 in WDA play and 21-1-0-0 overall to close out the regular season.
