Lions beat Panthers in battle of big cats
The Glenburn Panthers boys basketball team was not impressed or intimidated by the No. 2 ranking of the Bishop Ryan Lions when the two teams faced off at the Lions’ Den in Minot for a District 6 clash of the big cats. The hosts would win the game 75-37, despite the play of the Panthers.
The Lions started the game with an 8-0 run to take the lead. Bishop Ryan would push that to an 18-12 mark with 3:22 left to play in the first quarter of play. Three point shooting by Glenburn kept the Panthers within scratching distance of the Lions.
A quick timeout followed by a pair of slam dunks by Bishop Ryan’s Ramsey Walz swayed the momentum and put Bishop Ryan in front 26-17 to start the second quarter of play. With nearly two minutes off the clock in the second, both teams traded possessions and turnovers. The hosts led 30-17 when a timeout calmed the tempo and Bishop Ryan led 42-28 at the half.
Bishop Ryan made the halftime adjustments for scoring and outscored the visitors 33-9 in the second half of play.
