Lakers take road win over Royals on Military Appreciation night

The South Prairie-Max boys basketball team hosted the local rivals from Des Lacs-Burlington in a Region 3 showdown as the regular season winds to a close. The Lakers high energy combined with the Royals turnovers helped the visitors take the 67-50 win.
Des Lacs-Burlington (DLB) jumped out to a 6-0 lead before South Prairie-Max (SPM) was able to get onto the scoreboard. The hosts succumbed to the press defense applied by the Lakers with turnovers leading to DLB posting an 18-9 lead going into the second quarter of play.
The tempo and game notes from the first quarter were the same for the second as the Lakers kept adding to the lead, taking a 34-19 score into the half.
The Royals used halftime to make some adjustments and started the third quarter with energy and scoring. The Laker lead narrowed to 36-27 at the 6:04 mark with momentum on the SPM side. With a timeout the visitors regained their game and continued building the lead as DLB swung the momentum back onto their bench. The Lakers led 52-37 to start the final quarter of play.
DLB was led by Colton Feller with 21 points in the win. Jake Shaefer added 16 while Kyler Fisher and Jace Crocket each had 12 points for the Lakers in the contest.
SPM was led by Jaxon Anderson and Kingston Kizima with 12 points each in the effort. Jayden Huesers added ten points for the Royals in the game.
The win moved DLB to 10-8 overall as they sit atop the region standings with no conference losses. SPM moved to 4-14 overall with a sixth place in the region standings.
The Lakers will host Nedrose on Tuesday, February 18, and travel to Dunseith on Friday, February 21, with one game after that in the regular season schedule.
The Royals will be at Stanley on Tuesday next week and host Nedrose on Friday before traveling to Watford City on Saturday, February 22, for their final regular season game.
Stanley 42, New Town 36
The Blue Jays traveled south to face New Town in a Region 3 matchup with seeding on the line. Both teams were at the three / four slots in conference play. At New Town
The win moved Stanley to 11-7 with a win streak of five games going. New Town dropped to 10-7 with the loss.
Dunseith 69, Rugby 66
The Panthers traveled to Dunseith and were edged by the Dragons on their home hardwood for the win.
Rugby currently sits at fifth in conference standings while Dunseith is at seventh in Region 3 play. Dunseith travels to Bottineau on Tuesday and will host the Lakers on Friday next week. Rugby will host New Town on Tuesday and Hazen on Saturday next week.
