Lady Titans face Lady Bombers for District 6 Championship

The District 6 Girls Basketball Tournament continued with semifinal games and round one of the consolation bracket. The teams playing in the semifinals that are beaten will take place in the region qualifying games in the consolation bracket today as well as the final for the DIstrict 6 championship.

No. 3 Surrey 44, No. 7 Bishop Ryan 34

The Mustangs won the tip off but couldn’t score off of it. Once Surrey got the ball back to Sienna Klimpel they earned their first three points of the game. The Lions Tochi Udekwe quickly fired back with a layup and one at the free throw line to tie the score.

Bishop Ryan held the 10-9 lead over the Mustangs at the end of the first quarter. Surrey quickly won their lead back in the second quarter led by Morgan Anderson.

The Lions started the second half behind by eight points. Bishop Ryan tried to build their score back up and put 12 points for the Lions on the board. Cambree Zwak led the quarter for the Lions making six points on the arc.

Surrey still held the lead going into the fourth quarter and built their lead a little stronger at the end of the game. The Lions worked hard but couldn’t close the gap. Surrey took the 44-34 win and will continue their basketball season this year.

No. 4 Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 43, No. 9 Westhope-Newburg 38

The first quarter starter with both teams battling for the lead. After the Sioux collected a few fouls they tied the first quarter 9-9.

MLS took the lead in the second quarter led by Alexa Varty with five points. Westhope-Newburg trailed closely behind with Macy Brynds and Laken Lee each bringing in four Sioux points.

The Mavericks led by three at halftime. Through the third quarter MLS started to build a stronger lead. Varty once again led the score.

The Sioux worked and tied the game with two minutes left. The Mavericks collected several fouls from the Sioux and pulled away with the 43-38 win.

No. 2 TGU 51, No. 6 Our Redeemer’s 45

The Titans won the tip off and after a few turnovers scored via Josie Bryn with a 3-pointer. The Knights’ Mikayla Altringer retaliated with two points of her own.

The Knights led 13-8 after the first quarter but were quickly put down when TGU made 19 points in the second quarter to take the lead at half time.

The Titans’ Skyler Bohl led the third quarter with nine points out of the 19 for the quarter. Our Redeemers only made ten points in the third quarter and started to fall behind.

The Knights put up a good fight in the final quarter and brought in 15 points, out scoring the Titans for the quarter. TGU had grown too much of lead earlier in the game and took the 51-45 win and will move onto the district finals today.

No. 1 Berthold 48, No. 5 Glenburn 31

The Bombers and the Panthers fought hard for the win. Throughout the whole game the ladies stayed aggressive and excited to play. The first quarter ended in a 13-13 tie.

The second quarter of the game Glenburn took the lead with 23 total points. Berthold couldn’t make the shots they wanted and only put up seven points trailing behind with 20 points.

The Bombers showed up to win in the third quarter of the game. With a much tighter defence the Panthers could only score four points giving up their lead. Berthold doubled their score in the third quarter with Shayne Simons leading the score.

Berthold went into the third quarter with a 40-27 lead. The Bombers weren’t quite landing with their offence and had to rely on their defensive play to win the game.

With only two minutes left the Bombers were ahead by 14 points and just had to keep their defence strong to win. With no time left on the clock Berthold took the 48-31 win and will be playing in the division B district championship today at the Minot Auditorium.

District 5 Girls Basketball Tournament at New Town

No. 1 Kenmare-Bowbells 57, No. 5 Powers Lake-Burke Central 25

In the first semifinal game of the evening, the Lady Honkers defended their top seeding with the win and advanced to the final game for the chance to take the District 5 title.

Kenmare-Bowbells will face the second seed from Tioga in the championship game today at New Town.

No. 2 Tioga 55, No. 3 Trenton 46

In a closer match in the second semifinal game, Tioga edged Trenton in a two versus three battle to force a No. 1 versus No. 2 in the final today.

No. 4 Divide County 41, No. 8 North Shore-Plaza 27

Divide County won the consolation game to move forward into a region qualifying game today against Trenton.

No. 7 Parshall 66, No. 6 Ray 51

Parshall posted an upset over Ray in the six versus seven matchup. Parshall will face Powers Lake-Burke Central in a region play-in game today. t
