Lady Sentinels drop close home game to Lady Saints, 64-57

Minot North was out-rebounded to start their home contest against the visiting Lady Saints from Bismarck. The St. Mary’s full court press caused numerous turnovers. The Lady Saints scored multiple times on second chance shooting due to the rebounding of St. Mary’s.
And despite the struggle to start the game, the Lady Sentinels still led 11-9 to start the Western Dakota Association battle with the visiting Saints. That same game format continued from start to finish as St. Mary’s was able to edge Minot North for the 64-57 win.
The two teams traded points and the lead until the 11:58 mark of the first half when the Saints took the 13-11 lead and the Sentinels played catch up the rest of the game. Just 30 seconds later the lead for St. Mary’s stretched to 17-11 as the visitors went on an 8-0 run. By the 5:41 mark of the first half the score was 26-18 for the visitors.
The Lady Saints kept the full court pressure up and forced several turnovers as the first half wound down. With just 54.2 seconds left, St. Mary’s led 32-20 when Minot North scored to narrow the margin. With just 11.9 second left, the Saints called timeout, made a plan for the last shot of the half and executed according to the plan for the 34-22 halftime lead.
Minot North dropped to 3-11 in WDA play and 4-13 overall with the loss. The Lady Sentinels will host Watford City on Thursday, February 13, in a non-conference contest and travel across town to play Minot High on Saturday, February 15, for their next games.
St. Mary’s improved to 8-5 in WDA play and 10-6 overall. The Saints are currently fourth in the WDA standings behind Minot, Legacy and Mandan in the standings. They host Bismarck High on Tuesday and travel to Williston on Friday, February 14, for their next games.
Minot High 91, Dickinson 39
The top ranked Majettes traveled to Dickinson to face the Lady Midgets in WDA action on Friday, February 7, and brought home a road win to remain atop the standings with five games left to play in the regular season.
Minot High improved to 16-1 overall with a 12-1 WDA mark with the win. The Majettes will be at Jamestown on Tuesday, February 11, before hosting Minot North on Saturday, February 15, at the Magic City campus.
Dickinson dropped to 1-15 overall and 0-13 in WDA play and will host Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday next week.
