Lady Royals take a road win against Lady Lakers, 76-44
The Lady Lakers hosted the South Prairie-Max Royals at the dock for some region 3 basketball action. The Royals held a 17 game winning streak with zero losses this season. The Lakers put up a good fight but couldn’t keep up with the number one ranked team. Des Lacs-Burlington (DLB) lost the home game to South Prairie-Max 76-44.
The Lakers were on the Royals tail through the first quarter of the game. The two teams were tied at five for the first few minutes of the game, but South Prairie-Max quickly stole the lead. The Royals Skotti Beck brought in nine points to lead the South Prairie-Max score. Rylee Routledge followed close behind with five more Royal points.
The Lakers fought back with Kaylee Werner. Werner led the scoring effort for DLB with seven points. Logen Ystaas brought in a 3-pointer to help catch the Royals lead. Aspyn MaccLennan closed down the Lakers score with one final free throw point in the first quarter.
The Royals, with Abby Mikkelson’s four points and Bre Rose’s two points, held the short 20-11 lead over DLB at the end of the first quarter.
The Lakers worked hard and didn’t let the Royals take an unbeatable lead in the second quarter. DLB kept the game close with Werner who made eight points and Ystaas brought in another three points on the arc.
South Prairie-Max worked to continue the effort to build a strong lead but were held at bay in the second period. Beck led the score for the Royals again with eight points down in the paint and three points out on the arc. Maycie Talbot assisted with five points of her own, Azjiah Trader followed closely with four more Royal points. Mya Gunnville ended the quarter for the Royals with a three pointer to secure a 18 point lead over DLB.
The Royals stole the game after halftime. The Lakers could only put up nine points in the third quarter and gave South Prairie-Max the chance to build an impenetrable lead. Werner gave the Lakers seven points, Logan Ystaas brought in the two points for the Lakers.
The Royals put Routledge in the game for six quick points. Rose took her turn with the ball and gave South Prairie-Max four points in the lane. Mikkelson put up four more points. Talbot brought in the final points of the third quarter with another 3-pointer.
The Lakers couldn’t make the comeback in the final quarter of the game. Sierra Yale and Werner tried to catch the Royals with four points. Hannah Sundsbak stepped in and made her first three points for the game for DLB. Ytstass hit another three but couldn’t close the gap.
South Prairie-Max earned 16 more points in the final quarter of the game. Rose with six and Gunville with two points. Mya Rau and Mikkelson gave the Royals four more points each to win the game 76-44 over the Lakers.
The Lakers will travel to play Rugby Monday, February 10. DLB will host their final home game against Dunseith Thursday, February 13 starting at 6:00 p.m.

The fourth ranked Lady Bombers traveled to Trenton and brought the win home.

The seventh ranked team hosted the Lions and defended their home gym with the win.

The third ranked home team defended their hardwood against the visiting Lady Knights.
