Lady Bombers take district title over Lady Titans

The Lady Bombers basketball team, fueled by high energy and effort, held their top seed in tact with the 64-53 win over the Lady Titans in the District 6 Girls Basketball Tournament at the championship game on Saturday, February 15, at the Minot Auditorium.

Berthold worked the defense and made shots early to take the 19-10 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Bombers extended that lead over TGU for the 34-23 score at the half.

TGU began the third quarter with the attitude to close the gap with no such luck, Berthold increased the margin and led the game at 46-33 going into the fourth quarter of play.

Addison Neshem posted 30 points in the win to lead the Lady Bombers. Kasey Simons added 12 and Aubree Schepp tallied 11 in the win. Shayne Simons also had nine points in the game.

Bostyn Bailey hit for 22 to lead the Lady Titans. Ashley Martodam added 11 points in the effort. Both Lily Lageson and Brooke Best added six points each.

Both teams qualified for the Region 3 Girls Basketball Tournament in New Town next week.

MLS 53, Our Redeemer’s 43

In the region qualifying round of play, the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood girls played Our Redeemer’s and the Lady Mavericks beat the Lady Knights to move on to the Region 3 Girls Basketball Tournament in New Town next week.

MLS was led by Laney Varty with 15 points in the win. Alexa Varty added 14 points while Archer Ackerson added 11 for the Mavericks. Hattie Varty posted nine points. Of the 53 points in the win, 28 were scored by the ‘Varty’ girls.

The Lady Knights were led by MiKayla Altringer with 13 points. Kadyn Braun added 11 in the effort. Hannah Conway added eight points in the game for Our Redeemer’s.

Surrey 54, Glenburn 48

In the region qualifying round of play, the Surrey girls played Glenburn and the Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Panthers to move on to the Region 3 Girls Basketball Tournament in New Town next week.

Laney Will scored 17 points to lead Surrey in the win. Sienna Klimpel added 14 while Ava Keller added 11 in the effort.

Emma Jones led all scoring with 20 points for the Panthers. Aubrie Quick posted eight while Mila Jones added seven points in the effort.

Region 3 Tournament in New Town

The Region 3 Tournament kicks off on Monday, February 24, in New Town with Berthold as the distinct 6 top seed facing the district 5 fourth seed, Powers Lake-Burke Central in game one at 3 p.m.

Game two pits the district 5 two seed- Tioga- against Surrey, the district 6 three seed. The top seed from district 5, and top ranked team in the state polls, Kenmare-Bowbells will face the district 6 four seed, MLS, in the bottom half of the bracket.

The district 6 two seed, TGU, will take on Trenton, the district 5 three seed in the last game on Monday evening.
