Lady Beavers take two on Minnesota Ice
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn – The fifth ranked Minot State University (MSU) Beavers women’s hockey team scored eight goals in their 8-1 victory over the University of Minnesota to sweep the two-game series on Sunday, February 2.
With the win, the Beavers improve their record to 20-7-2, while the University of Minnesota falls to 4-16-2.
The Beavers took control of the game from the very start, scoring three goals and holding Minnesota scoreless through the first period of play. The Beavers first goal came at 1:07 into the first period scored by Cameron Schmidt to give MSU a 1-0 lead. The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 at 14:39 into the period on a goal scored by Abby Pineau.
MSU made it a 3-0 game at 18:37 into the period on a goal scored by Kaitlyn Snyder, her first goal of the season. Jillian Ackerman was back in goal for the Beavers, and held Minnesota scoreless in the first period, tallying six saves on six shots on goal.
The University of Minnesota scored their only goal in the game at 7:48 into the second period scored by Caitlyn Leising to cut down Minot’s lead to 3-1. The Beavers answered back with a goal of their own at 15:25 into the period scored by Schmidt, her second goal of the game, to give MSU a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.
MSU really pulled away in the third period scoring 4 goals and holding Minnesota scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Beavers took a 5-1 lead at 1:35 into the third period on a goal scored by Journey Miller. MSU took a 6-1 lead at 8:33 into the period on a power play goal scored by Schmidt, her third goal of the game to secure the hat trick.
The Beavers took a 7-1 lead at 8:51 into the period on a goal scored by Snyder, her second goal of the game. MSU took an 8-1 lead at 14:41 into the period on a power play goal scored by Pineau, her second goal of the game. Paige Ackerman, Krissy Rink (2), Paige Kozak (2), Erica Fijala, Makena Welby, Olivia Kirwan and Tori Bear were credited with assists in the game.
Jillian Ackerman led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 14 saves on 15 shots on goal to secure the victory and improve her record to 7-1-0.
Following the two-game series sweep over the University of Minnesota, the Beavers will be back in action at home in a two-game series against the University of Jamestown for the final regular season series of the year.
Game one is scheduled for Friday, February 14, at 3:45 pm at the Maysa Arena, and game two is scheduled for Saturday, February 15, at 5:00 pm at the Maysa Arena. The Beavers will be celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, February 15.

The MSU women’s hockey team shutout the University of Minnesota in a 3-0 victory in game one of a two-game series.
The Beavers opened up the scoring at 19:14 into the first period on a goal scored by
Cameron Schmidt to take a 1-0 lead. Minot State’s goalie, Jillian Ackerman, held Minnesota scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play, tallying five saves on five shots on goal.
Both MSU and Minnesota were held scoreless throughout the second period thanks to the performance of each teams’ goalie. For the Beavers, Ackerman tallied eight saves on eight shots on goal, and for Minnesota, Kailee Medved tallied 12 saves on 12 shots on goal.
At 1:58 into the third period, the Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal scored by
Paige Kozak. At 10:19 into the period, the Beavers added some insurance on a goal scored by Paige Ackerman to take a 3-0 lead. Jillian Ackerman continued her impressive night in goal for the Beavers, tallying ten saves on ten shots on goal to secure the 3-0 shutout victory.
Makena Welby was credited with two assists in tonight’s game for MSU and J. Ackerman led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 23 saves on 23 shots on goal to secure the shutout.
