The District 6 Girls Basketball Tournament tipped off on Tuesday, February 11, at the Minot Auditorium with three play-in games to advance to day two on Thursday, February 13, with a shot at playing for the district title and to advance to the Region Tournament.

The Our Redeemer’s Lady Knights, Bishop Ryan Lions and Westhope-Newburg Lady Sioux won their games to move on.

No. 7 Bishop Ryan 47, No. 10 Drake-Anamoose 38

The final score did not indicate the intensity of the competition nor how close things were at the start of the matchup.

The first quarter ended with an 8-8 score. The second quarter ended with Bishop Ryan holding a 22-19 lead going into the halftime break. The third quarter ended with the Lions holding on to a 34-31 lead as the final quarter started.

Even with 3:49 left to play in the game, Bishop Ryan led 37-33 as the game was still up in the air. It was at that point in the contest that the Lions hit on a pair of 3-pointers, forced too many turnovers with the full court press and the Lady Raiders missed on too many shots.

No. 6 Our Redeemer’s 42, No. 11 Velva 27

The Lady Knights led 16-10 after the first quarter of play against the Lady Aggies. Velva kept the game close into the half and the first portion of the third quarter of play. With a two point lead just after the midway point of the third, the Lady Knights went on a run with 3-point shots and rebounding as the edge.

The two teams started the final quarter of play with Our Redeemer’s holding a 32-22 lead. The tough defense, rebounding and shooting from the arc led to the Lady Knights making a momentum shift and posted a 10-5 run in the fourth for the win.

No. 9 Westhope-Newburg 60, No. 8 Harvey-Wells County 30

The Lady Sioux might have been one step below the Lady Hornets in the seeding, but the outcome of the game displayed the balanced level of the teams between the fourth and ninth seeds. This day belonged to Westhope-Newburg despite losing to Harvey-Wells County in January during the regular season by a 58-42 margin at the Lady Hornets gym.

No. 2 TGU v No. 7 Bishop Ryan

The Lady LLions lost a close game on the road to TGU when the Lady Titans posted the 52-49 win the last week of January.

No. 3 Surrey v No. 6 Our Redeemer’s

The Lady Mustangs took the home win 62-54 on the last day of January in the regular season.

No. 1 Berthold v No. 9 Westhope-Newburg

The Lady Sioux have their work cut out for themselves, but the win over Harvey-Wells County bodes well. The Lady Bombers won the meeting during the regular season 64-39 at home. Westhope-Newburg will need their second pay-back win of the tournament to advance.

No. 4 MLS v No. 5 Glenburn

The Lady Mavericks beat the Lady Panthers in Mohall on January 14 with a 56-48 score. Glenburn will need mistake free effort to upset their neighbors to the north.

Starting at $2.99/week.
