In District 6 vs District 5 showdown, Knights beat Ranchers 69-49

Kari GIbb/MDN Our Redeemer’s senior Bryce Vibeto (32) drives for the basket while Powers Lake-Burke Central defenders work to block his path on Tuesday, February 18, as the Knights hosted the Ranchers in District 5 versus District 6 Division B hoops to end the regular season.
The Knights hosted the Ranchers in the final home game and senior night for Our Redeemer’s Christian School on Tuesday, February 18, at the Castle. The Knights defended their gym and kept their winning ways with the 69-49 victory over the District 5 guests.
Both teams started the game with high energy and athleticism and early in the first quarter played to a 6-6 tie before the Knights went on an 8-0 run for the 14-6 lead- prompting at timeout by the Powers Lake-Burke Central bench.
The timeout and adjustments were valuable as the gap was narrowed by the Ranchers and the second quarter started with the hosts in the lead 16-14 in the evenly matched game.
Our Redeemer’s began to gather defensive rebounds and turned those into points. The shooting widened to 3-point range for the Knights and the hosts went on a 17-9 run through the second quarter of play. Our Redeemer’s took the 37-23 lead into the halftime break.
The halftime adjustments kept the Knights working on offense as the home team outscored Powers Lake-Burke Central 32-46 in the second half. While neither team is affected by the final score in their district seeding, the game was a solid showcase of what to expect when the Division B, Region 3 tournament begins.
Our Redeemer’s, Bishop Ryan and Westhope-Newburg each sit at 9-1 in district play and each are waiting on the outcomes across the district this week to determine the top three slots in conference seeding.
Velva has the fourth slot, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood sits at five with TGU at sixth, Harvey-Wells County at seventh and Surrey in eighth place waiting for the rest of the district to shake out.
The Ranchers came into the game in Minot with the top seed in Region 3, District 5 locked in. Powers Lake-Burke Central will get another Region 3 preview when they travel to face Velva on Thursday, February 20, for their next game.
Glenburn 76,
Drake-Anamoose 50
The Raiders made the trip to the Panthers with the seeding in Region 3, District 6 still up for grabs. Glenburn tentatively moved into sole possession of the nine slots in the standings with the win, moving Drake-Anamoose into the tenth slot.
Ray 82, Tioga 63
Ray made the trip to face Tioga in a District 5 matchup. While Tioga had the three seed and Ray had the two seed prior to the start of the game, the effort was a good preview of what to possibly expect in the district tournament next week.
