Top ranked Beavers on ten game win streak

The No. 1 ranked Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team defeated the University of Mary in game two of a two-game series on Sunday, January 26, by a final score of 6-2 to sweep the series.

With this two-game series sweep over the University of Mary, the Beavers will finish the regular season with a 6-0-0 record over the Marauders. With the win, Minot State improves their record to 28-2-3, while the University of Mary falls to 19-10-0.

MSU got the scoring started at 10:43 into the first period on a goal scored by Joey Moffatt to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Mary tied the game up at 1-1 on a goal scored by Hunter Mangan at 13:19 into the period.

MSU had full control in the second period, scoring three goals to increase their lead to 4-1. The Beavers second goal of the game was scored by Ryan Monias, his first goal of the season, at 3:35 into the period.

The third goal of the game for the Beavers was scored by Joey Moffatt, his second goal of the game, at 12:24 into the period. The fourth goal of the game for the Beavers was a big one as

Joey Moffatt scored his third goal of the game to secure the hat trick at 17:20 into the period. MSU’s goalie, Jake Anthony, held the Marauders scoreless in the second period, tallying seven saves on seven shots on goal.

Mary got on the board just 19 seconds into the third period with a goal scored by Derek Dropik to cut the Beavers lead to 4-2. The Beavers quickly answered back with a goal of their own at 33 seconds into the period scored by Reid Arnold to extend the Beavers lead to 5-2. MSU added to their lead on a goal scored by Christian Kadolph at 9:23 into the period to give the Beavers a 6-2 victory.

Trenton Curtis, Christian Kadolph (2), Eric Krywy and Josh Pederson were credited with assists in the game. Anthony led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 18 saves on 20 shots on goal to secure the victory and improve his record to 14-2-2.

Following the two-game series sweep over the University of Mary, the Beavers will be back in action on the road in Jamestown to take on the University of Jamestown on Friday, January 31, at 7:00 pm.

The top ranked MSU Beavers men’s hockey team added on to their winning streak on Saturday, January 25, with a 6-1 victory over the University of Mary in game one of a two-game series.

The Beavers opened up the scoring at 1:43 into the first period on a goal scored by Joey Moffatt

to give MSU a 1-0 lead. The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 at 13:22 into the period on a power play goal scored by Reid Arnold. Mary was held scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play as the Beaver’s goalie, William Dyke, tallied four saves on four shots on goal.

The Beavers extended their lead to 3-0 at 0:24 into the second period on Joey Moffatt’s second goal of the game. MSU made it a 4-0 game at 2:28 into the period on a goal scored by Logan Cyca.

The University of Mary scored their first, and only, goal of the game at 3:54 into the period on a power play goal scored by Jacob Murray to make it a 4-1 Beaver lead. At 8:58 into the period, the Beavers extended their lead to 5-1 on a goal scored by Jay Buchholz. The Beavers made it a 6-1 game on a power play goal scored by Logan Rands at 15:13 into the period.

In the third period, the Beaver’s goalie, Dyke, held Mary scoreless, tallying seven saves on seven shots on goal, to secure the 6-1 victory.

Austin Clyne (3), Jay Buchholz (2), Christian Kadolph (2), Slade Stanick, Walker Jerome, Trenton Curtis and Brayden Pawluk were credited with assists in the game. MSU’s goalie, Dyke, tallied 16 saves on 16 shots on goal to secure the victory, and improve his record to 11-0-1.

MSU Men 4, University of Jamestown 3

The top ranked MSU Beavers men’s hockey team defeated #5 University of Jamestown on Friday, January 24, by a final score of 4-3. MSU scored four goals in an exciting third period to secure the victory.

The University of Jamestown jumped ahead 0-1 at 6:07 into the first period on a goal scored by Brad Fortin. In the second period, Jamestown extended their lead to 0-2 on a goal scored by Kole Christensson at 14:52 into the period.

To open up the third period, the Beavers cut into Jamestown’s lead on a goal scored by Jay Buchholz at 1:04 into the period to make it a 1-2 game. At 3:08 into the period, the Beavers tied the game at 2-2 on a power play goal scored by Logan Rands.

At 4:33 into the period, Jamestown took a 2-3 lead on a power play goal scored by Mario Decapite. At 11:41 into the period, the Beavers tied the game, once again, at 3-3 on Jay Buchholz’s second goal of the game.

At 16:19 into the period, the Beavers took a 4-3 lead, their first lead of the night, which would prove to be enough to secure the victory, on a goal scored by Brett Tataryn. Brayden Pawluk, Christian Kadolph, Jay Buchholz and Trenton Curtis were credited with assists in the game.

With the victory, the Beaver’s goalie, Jake Anthony, improved his record to 13-2-2, with a total of 17 saves on 20 shots on goal in the game against Jamestown.
