Romfo makes FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced University of North Dakota (UND) quarterback Simon Romfo as one of 54 individuals selected to the 27th Annual Academic All-Star Team on Tuesday.
There were 54 individuals earning a spot on the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team. Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) in undergraduate or graduate study and must have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials.
They must have reached their second year of academic and athletic standing at their nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. They also must have completed in at least half of the games played at their designated position.
By making the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team, Romfo became the ninth UND student-athlete in school history to earn the honor. The previous UND players named to the FCS Academic All-Star Team were Ben McNaboe (2023), Brian Labat (2015), Will Ratelle (2015), Ty Boyle (2010), Brandon Hellevang (2009), Andrew Miller (2009), Mitch Braegelmann (2008) and Danny Freund (2008).
A special Review Committee of FCS athletics directors were responsible for selecting the 2024 Academic All-Star Team. This year’s Review Committee consisted of: Mark Benson, Albany (Chair); Kurt McGuffin, UT Martin; Sherryta Freeman, Lafayette; Skip Perkins, North Carolina Central; and Tom Michael, Eastern Illinois.
Romfo started all 12 games at quarterback and ranked No. 5 in the MVFC in passing touchdowns (18) in 2024. He went 183-for-301 passing for 2,051 yards and 18 touchdowns while surrendering eight interceptions. Romfo rushed 101 times for 296 yards and four scores. He recorded a season-high 57 yards rushing in the 27-24 win over No. 4 Montana and put down a season-best 287 yards passing in the 52-28 victory against Idaho State. He finished the year with two games of 20-or-more completions and threw three touchdown passes in three games.
In UND’s Division I record book, Romfo currently ranks No. 4 in career completion percentage (61.2) and No. 6 in career touchdown passes (18). He is also No. 7 in career passes attempted (304), No. 8 in career passes completed (186) and No. 8 in career passing yards (2,069).
Off the field, Romfo stands out as well with 100.0 hours of community service at UND. He enjoys taking part in UND’s Holiday Magic from Markus and volunteering with the Special Olympics.
He shines in the classroom as well, carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.93 while majoring in finance. Recently, Romfo was named a First Team member on the 2024 MVFC All-Academic Team. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree in finance, he plans to farm.
