MSU men’s basketball up to No. 4
The Our Redeemer Knights hosted the South Prairie-Max Royals in a battle of division B hosting division A teams.
The Royals, the top ranked team in division A, won the contest 69-36 in the end.
Starting the first quarter for the Knights is Hannah Conway (23), Kadyn Braun (5), Noel Pankratz (25), Brooklyn Roedocker (24), and Lauren Strom (20).
The Royals put out Skotti Beck (21), Brianna Rose (32), Maycie Talbott (12), Abby Mikkelson (33) and Rylee Routledge (1). Strom and Rose face off for the first possession.
The Knights worked hard to bypass the Royals tight defense, finally able to score nine points before the end of the quarter keeping up with the Royals leading with 22 points. The top scorer for the quarter was Beck with seven and Strom with four.
Starting the second quarter the Knights continue to push past the Royals defense with Braun scoring eight more points this quarter. In total the Knights earned 13 points in this quarter, four more from Altringer and one from Strom, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Royals quick offense.
The Royals started a full court press early in the second quarter to keep the Knights out of range of their basket, which helped cause 11 turnovers from the Knights in the first half of the game compared to the Royals five turnovers.
The Knights shooting fouls give Beck the opportunity to score six protected points for the Royals in the second quarter. Beck with the help of Mikkelson, Mya Gunville and Routledge earned the Royals 23 more points to end the half in the lead 45-22.
Moving back into the game the Royals hit a 3-pointer in the first minute to set the tone for the second half. The Royals decided to stick with it and hit two more shots behind the arc, one from Gunville and two from Beck.
As the quarter continues the Knights continue fighting but they can’t beat a nasty breakaway layup by Beck. Once again giving this quarter to the Royals holding a 34 point lead.
As the fourth quarter starts and the game wraps up the Royals sub in Reagan Trundell, Kinley Schilla and Brielle Hillestad who all score but can’t quite fight the knights defence, only scoring 5 more points this quarter.
The Royals subs continue playing and on defence only allow the knights to hit one more shot, a 3-pointer by Braun. Ending the game with victory for the South Prairie-Maxx Royals who get to keep their perfect record with the 69-36 win.
Skotti Beck for the Royals and Kadyn Braun for the Knights were the sharp shooters of the game scoring 21 and 17 points respectively. Beck also finished with a perfect 9-for-9 at the freethrow line with Altringer also finished perfect at the freethrow line with a 4-for-4 for this game.
