MSU men score 22 goals in two game sweep

The No. 2 ranked Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team scored 12 goals in their 12-3 victory on Saturday, January 11, to sweep the two-game series against Iowa State University. With the win, the Beavers improve to 23-2-3, while Iowa State drops to 5-16-1 on the season.

MSU scored two goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored by

Reid Arnold on the power play at 14:52 into the period. The second goal was scored by Sheldin Howard on the power play at 16:40 into the period. Minot State’s goalie, Mason Kelly, held Iowa State scoreless in the first period, tallying seven saves on seven shots on goal.

In the second period, there were 8 total goals scored. Of the 8 goals scored, 6 were scored by MSU, and 2 were scored by Iowa State. The Beaver’s third goal of the game was scored by Logan Cyca at 2:33 into the period. The fourth goal was scored by Brett Tataryn at 3:26 into the period. The fifth goal was scored by Cyca again, his second goal of the game, at 10:26 into the period.

The sixth goal was scored by Logan Rands at 14:39 into the period. Iowa State’s first goal of the game was scored by Matthew Mahoney at 15:30 into the period. The Beaver’s seventh goal of the game was scored by Arnold, his second goal of the game, at 17:08 into the period. The eighth goal was scored by Kieran Cooke at 19:26 into the period. Iowa State’s second goal of the game was scored by Michael Mulkerrin at 19:50 into the period.

Iowa State opened up the third period with a goal scored by Gabe Myers at 3:22 into the period. MSU went on to score four goals in the remainder of the third period. The Beaver’s ninth goal of the game was scored by Tataryn, his second goal of the game, at 4:24 into the period. The tenth goal was scored by Joey Moffatt at 11:15 into the period.

The eleventh goal was scored by Colby Joseph on the power play at 13:14 into the period. The twelfth goal was scored by Trenton Curtis on the power play at 19:04 into the period to secure the 12-3 victory.

Rands (2), Eric Krywy (2), Arnold, Curtis, Joseph, Cooke (2), Ryan Monias (2), Matt Egan (2), Reece Henry (2), Tataryn, Brayden Pawluk, Slade Stanick (2) and Matthew Yakubowski were all credited with assists in today’s game.

Kelly led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 19 saves on 22 shots on goal to secure the victory.

Following the two-game series sweep over Iowa State University, the Beavers will be back in action on the road in Albert Lea, Minnesota, for a two-game series against Waldorf University. Game one is scheduled for Friday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m., and game two is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, at 6:00 pm.

The No. 2 ranked MSU Beavers men’s hockey team scored 10 goals in their shutout win over Iowa State University in game one of a two-game series on Friday, January 10. With the 10-0 victory, the Beavers improved their record to 22-2-3, while Iowa State dropped to 5-15-1.

MSU scored two goals in the first period to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. The first goal was scored by Matthew Yakubowski at 6:29 into the period. The second goal was scored by Logan Cyca at 10:29 into the period. Minot State’s goalie, William Dyke, held Iowa State scoreless through the first period, tallying 8 saves on 8 shots on goal.

The Beavers scored 3 goals in the second period to increase their lead to 5-0. The third goal of the game was scored by Sheldin Howard at 8:08 into the period. The fourth goal of the game was scored by Joey Moffatt at 10:08 into the period.

The fifth goal of the game was scored by Sheldin Howard on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 16:23 into the period. Will Dyke held Iowa State scoreless in the second period, tallying three saves on three shots on goal.

MSU scored 5 goals in the third period to increase their lead to 10-0. The sixth goal of the game was scored by Colby Joseph at 5:20 into the period. The seventh goal of the game was scored by Brett Tataryn at 8:36 into the period.

The eighth goal of the game was scored by Sheldin Howard on the power play, his third goal of the game to complete the hat trick, at 12:56 into the period. The ninth goal of the game was scored by Slade Stanick, his first goal of his collegiate career, at 15:28 into the period. The tenth goal of the game was scored by Logan Rands at 16:29 into the period.

Dyke held Iowa State scoreless in the third period to complete the hat trick and secure the 10-0 victory, tallying 5 saves on 5 shots on goal. Slade Stanick (2), Brayden Pawluk (2), Reid Arnold (2), Trenton Curtis (3), Logan Rands (2), Walker Jerome, Matt Egan, Logan Cyca, Joey Moffatt and Reece Henry were all credited with assists in the game.

Along with his first collegiate goal, Slade Stanick’s two assists in today’s game were his first two assists of his collegiate career. Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 16 saves on 16 shots on goal, completing the shut out, and improving his record to 9-0-1.
