MSU men score 14 goals in two wins

The Minot State University (MSU) men’s hockey team hosted a pair of games over the weekend at the Maysa Arena to kick off the 2025 portion of the 2024-2025 season. The Beavers would take both wins over the ranked opponent.

MSU Men 6,

Midland University 0

The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team shuts out Midland University for the second straight game with a 6-0 final on Sunday, January 5. With the win, the Beavers complete the two-game series sweep over Midland, and improve their record to 20-2-3 on the season. With the loss, Midland drops to 13-13-1.

MSU came away from the first period with a 1-0 lead, as the Beavers scored the lone goal in the period. The goal was scored by Reid Arnold on the power play at 13:51 into the period. MSU’s goaltender, William Dyke, shut down Midland in the first period, tallying six saves on six shots on goal.

MSU added two more goals in the second period to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead through two periods. The Beaver’s second goal of the game was scored by Reece Henry on the power play at 10:07 into the period.

The third goal of the game was scored by Reid Arnold on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 15:01 into the period. William Dyke added seven saves on seven shots on goal to continue his shutout against Midland.

MSU added three more goals in the third period to give the Beavers a 6-0 lead through three periods. Joey Moffatt got the scoring started for the Beavers in the third period, with a goal scored at 6:18 into the period. The next Beavers to find the back of the net in the third period was Sheldin Howard scoring his first goal of the season at 11:28 into the period.

The final goal of the game was scored by Matt Egan at 13:08 into the period to give the Beavers a 6-0 win. William Dyke added seven saves on seven shots on goal in the third period to complete the shut out over Midland.

Trenton Curtis (2), Logan Rands (2), Matthew Yakubowski, Brayden Pawluk, Austin Clyne, Logan Cyca, Reece Henry, Joey Moffatt and Ryan Monias were all credited with assists in today’s game. Ryan Monias’ assist was his first point of the season.

William Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers, shutting out Midland with 20 saves on 20 shots on goal, improving his record to 8-0-1.

Following the two-game series sweep over Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action at home in a mid-week game against #14 University of Mary. This game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, at 7:00 pm at the Maysa Arena for Hockey Booster Night and Youth Sports Night.

The MSU Beavers men’s hockey team made easy work of Midland University on Saturday, January 4, shutting out their opponent by a final score of 8-0 in game one of a two-game series. With the win, the Beavers improve their record to 19-2-3, while Midland University drops to 13-12-1 on the season.

MSU came away from the first period with a 3-0 lead over Midland. The first goal was scored by

Josh Pederson at 13:08 into the period. The second goal was scored by Colby Joseph on the power play at 15:49 into the period.

The third goal of the first period was scored by Logan Rands at 18:47 into the period. The Beaver’s goaltender, Jake Anthony, tallied five saves on five shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play.

By the end of the second period, the Beavers had extended their lead to 6-0. The fourth goal of the night for the Beavers was scored by Trenton Curtis at 4:33 into the period. The fifth goal for MSU was scored by Joey Moffatt at 10:30 into the period. The sixth goal was scored by Logan Rands, his second goal of the game, at 17:50 into the second period.

Jake Anthony, once again, had a flawless period in goal for the Beavers, tallying seven saves on seven shots on goal.

MSU would go on to add two more goals in the third period to give them eight goals on the night.

The seventh goal of the game for the Beavers was scored by Joey Moffatt on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 6:42 into the period. The eighth goal for the Beavers was scored by Josh Pederson on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 16:02 into the period.

Jake Anthony completed the shut out over Midland with ten saves on ten shots on goal in the third period. Logan Cyca (2), Matthew Yakubowski (2), Joey Moffatt (2), Jay Buchholz (2), Trenton Curtis, Austin Clyne, Payton Jerome and Eric Krywy were all credited with assists in the game.

The Beaver’s goalie, Jake Anthony completed the shutout against Midland, tallying 22 saves on 22 shots on goal, improving his record to 11-2-2 on the season.
