MSU men ranked No. 14 after week of setbacks

The Minot State University (MSU) men’s basketball team suffered its first two setbacks of the season over the weekend and with the two losses slipped in the latest national polls to No. 14.

The Beavers (17-2 overall, 8-2 NSIC) earned 192 points in the NABC Top 25 coaches poll released today and they slipped from No. 4 to No. 14. Minot State earned 141 points in the D2CSC Top 25 poll voted on by the nation’s college sports communicators, slipping from No. 7 to No. 14 in today’s poll, as well.

MSU is one of two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams ranked in the Top 25 along with Southwest Minnesota State, which topped the Beavers 76-73 on Saturday, January 14. The Mustangs were No. 22 in the NABC poll and No. 13 in the D2CSC poll.

Also earning votes in both polls from the NSIC was Winona State, which is in the “others receiving votes,” while Concordia, St. Paul received votes in the D2CSC poll and is among the “others receiving votes,” in that poll as well.

Washburn (Kansas) (15-0) took over the No. 1 spot in both polls and is one of two remaining unbeaten teams. Daemen (N.Y.) (14-0) is No. 2 in the NABC poll and No. 4 in the D2CSC poll, while Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (14-1) slipped from the top spot in both polls to No. 2 in the D2CSC poll and No. 3 in the NABC poll after suffering its first loss this season.

The Beavers have been in the Top 25 for six straight rankings this season in the NABC poll and for three consecutive rankings in the D2CSC poll.

The 14th-ranked MSU men are back on the road this weekend playing at Wayne State on Friday, January 17, at 5:30 p.m. and at Augustana on Saturday, January 18, at 3:30 p.m.
