MSU lady grapplers, Jimmies tied 20-20
JAMESTOWN – The Minot State University (MSU) women’s wrestling team made the trip south to Jamestown to take on the Jimmies for the seventh meeting between the two programs. The two teams will need to wait for another year to add a win or loss to the history of the contests as the match on Wednesday, January 15, was a 20-20 tie.
Keela Kary won the match at 131-pounds for the Lady Beavers to start the scoring on the mat. Nina Sandoval at 180-lbs also won her match. MSU’s Madilyn Schuck took the win at 207 for the third win on the mat. Each of these three matches were won in the first period by fall for the 15 points.
Ann Marie beat Megan Ebach at 145 and Allyssa Johnson beat Hleigh Lematta at 160 for the two mat wins for the Jimmies and ten team points. Each of the two wins were by fall in the first period- just like the Lady Beavers.
Neither the visiting Lady Beavers or the hosting Jimmies earned points at 103 or 110 with double forfeits due to lack of athletes. Jenna Baarson and Abby Ewing took forfeit wins at 117 and 124 respectively over MSU while the Lady Beavers had a forfeit win at 138 for each team to reach the 20 point mark.
The MSU women will attend the York Open in Nebraska on Saturday, January 18, for their next competition. The Lady Beavers have the Grand View Open on the calendar for February 1 prior to the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) Regional Tournament to earn seats at the NCWWC National Tournament in March.
