Minot High JV takes home win over Hazen-Beulah Varsity

The North Stars made the trip to Minot High and played the Magicians JV squad for Western Dakota Association (WDA) points in a first meets last in the WDA standings.

The home team took the 10-1 win for the points and to keep the Magicians record in WDA in action as undefeated.

The Magicians outshot Hazen-Beulah 17-2 in the first period of play and led 3-0 until the final minute of play when the North Stars found the net before the break to narrow the lead to 3-1 for the Minot High JV.

Hazen-Beulah would not find the net again in the contest while Minot High added seven goals in the second and third periods of play.

The Minot High Varsity will be in action tomorrow, January 11, at Maysa Arena in a non-conference matchup with Fargo Davies and travel to Williston on Tuesday, January 14, for their next WDA game.

Bottineau-Rugby 3, Williston 0

The Williston boys hockey team made the trip to Bottineau to take on the Braves in a WDA matchup. The win for Bottineau-Rugby was needed to make ground in the WDA standings.

The Coyotes kept the game at a 0-0 mark for the first period of play, despite Bottineau-Rugby outshooting Williston 10-6. The second period started the same way as the first period. By the end of the second, the Braves held a 1-0 lead and never looked back.

Gavin Bartsch scored the even strength goal at the 12:33 mark for the lead. Khaliel Abdurrahman was awarded the assist. Bottineau-Rugby outshot Williston 11-6 in the second period and the Braves had two penalties compared to the Coyotes with none.

In the third period of play, Grady Glasner scored an even strength goal at the 12:32 mark with Payton Getzlaff and Tucker Fedje with the assists for the 2-0 lead. Getzlaff hit the net at the 15:23 mark with Williston in an empty net situation for the 3-0 lead.

Bottineau-Rugby had one penalty, as did Williston, and the Coyotes outshot the Braves 8-5 in the final period of play. Mason Lynnes was in net for Bottineau-Rugby with 20-of-20 saves for the wins.

At 3-2-1-0 in WDA play, Bottineau-Rugby sits at six with Williston at fourth with a 4-2-1-0 WDA mark.

The Braves will be at Jamestown today and Mandan tomorrow for their next games while Williston will be at Bismarck Legacy on Saturday, January 11.
