Majettes, Lady Lakers leave marks on the mat
Several girls wrestling programs were in action over the weekend and yesterday. The Coal Country Clash was hosted by Hazen over the weekend with several local teams in attendance among the 18 teams that participated. Minot High traveled to Turtle Mountain for a Western Dakota Association (WDA) dual on Tuesday, January 21, as well.
Minot High 48, TMCHS 27
The Majettes traveled to Belcourt to take on the Turtle Mountain Community High School girls wrestling team in a WDA dual. Minot High posted the win with seven pins and one forfeit going 8-for-13 on the mat.
At 100-pounds, Ella Brown pinned her opponent to take the 6-0 lead for Minot High. Khylie Schlotz did the same at 112 for the Majettes. At 118, Martha Ward also pinner her opponent while Madisyn Racine pinner her wrestler at 124 in under one minute of mat time.
Haleigh Carr pinned for the win at 130 while Monica Boakye took her ‘W’ by forfeit at 106 for Minot High to hold a 36-0 lead at that point of the dual. Jade’ence Fletcher pinned her opponent at 190 in under 30-seconds for the fastest win of the evening. Maycee Boyce pinned her wrestler at 155 for the final points for the Majettes.
At 136, Sava Nelson was pinned for the TMCHS team to get six points. At 142, Riley Hansen battled but lost for TMCHS to gain another three team points for the dual. At 148, Kendall Bice was pinned for another six TMCHS points and the Braves tallied two more wins by forfeit at 170 and 250 for their 27 total team points.
With the win, Minot High is tied with Bismarck High atop the WDA standings at 4-1 while TMCHS drops to 3-3 and is mid pack in the standings.
The Majettes will be at Jamestown (1-3) on Thursday, January 23, for their next WDA dual and will be at the Rugby Tournament on Saturday, January 25, to end the week.
Coal Country Clash 2025
The Lady Lakers had the top team finish at the Coal Country Clash in fifth place. First place went to Bismarck High with 161 team points. Second place went to Bismarck Legacy with 157 team points while Dickinson was third with 138 points.
Kashtyn Bredahl earned 30 team points at the meet and finished in first place at 124-pounds for Des Lacs-Burlington. Deysi Krisher took second place at 155-lbs for the Lady Lakers and earned 20 team points.
At 170, Victoria Pasterz earned 21 team points and placed second for Des Lacs-Burlington. Laker teammate Lillyann Nydard placed eighth at the 170-lbs classification and earned four team points as well. Kale Krisher earned the team 11 points and finished in fifth place at 190 for the Lakers.
From Kenmare-Bowbells, Taley Michel finished second at the 106-lbs weight classification and earned 19.5 team points for the Lady Honkers who finished in seventh place. Michel also finished second at 124 and earned 23 team points.
At 136 for the Lady Honkers, Amaya Baptiste placed second and earned 12 team points at the meet. Tagen Thornton placed fifth for Kenmare-Bowbells at 170 and earned five team points as well. At 112 for Kenmare-Bowbells, Katelyn Cook earned one team point with an eighth place finish at the clash.
For the Rugby girls, Bria Brossart took first and earned the team 28 points to help the Lady Panthers in their ninth place finish. Avarie Jacobson took fifth place at 106 and added ten points to the Rugby total. Addi Mack at 118 for Rugby finished in eighth place and added one point to the team total.
Velva had one Lady Aggie earn 11 points for the team. Violette Sola placed fifth at 112 for Velva.
