Majettes beat Midgets, remain unbeaten

The Minot High girls basketball team entered Tuesday’s game in second place atop the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings and ranked the top team in Division AA for the state. Dickinson traveled to Minot to be the latest team to throw everything at the Majettes in hopes of taking a road win. Minot High dealt the Lady Midgets the 84-34 loss for their efforts. Dickinson started the game with aggressive defense and serious efforts on physical screens. While Minot High had bodies bruised and battered early, the Majettes still worked to cultivate the lead at home. With under two minutes gone in the first half, Minot High led 10-6 and just over a minute later held the 17-8 lead. Two minutes later and the margin was up to 24-8 as the Majettes managed a 7-0 run. With timeouts and adjustments, that momentum shift turned into a 13-4 run over the next four minutes of play for a Minot High 37-12 lead. By the end of the half that lead grew to 46-16 and the 30-point lead stretched to a 50-point win for the game final. With the win, Minot High moved to 5-0 in WDA play and 9-0 overall. Mandan maintained the top spot in the WDA standings with a win to move to 6-0 in WDA play and 9-0 as well overall. Minot High hosts Bismarck Century on Friday, January 14, and will take on Mandan on Tuesday, January 21, in a showdown for WDA standings. With the loss, Dickinson drops to 0-6 in WDA play and 1-8 overall for the season. The Lady Midgets host Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday this week and travel to Bismarck High on Tuesday, January 21, for their next two games. Bismarck St. Mary’s 83, Minot North 67 The Lady Sentinels traveled south to Bismarck in an effort to take a road win in WDA play over the Saints. Despite the efforts, St. Mary’s were able to defend their home hardwood and keep pace with the leaders in the WDA standings. St. Mary’s, Bismarck Legacy and Bismarck Century are all at 4-2 with Bismarck High at 3-3 in WDA play. Only Mandan and Minot High have separated themselves from the pack in the middle. Minot North sits above Dickinson at 1-6 and just behind Jamestown at 1-5 in the WDA standings. The Sentinels host Bismarck High on Friday, January 17, and travel to Jamestown on Tuesday, January 21, in an effort to move into the middle of the standings.
