Majettes beat Lady Midgets on Dickinson ice

DICKINSON – Minot High’s girls hockey team hit the road over the weekend to face Dickinson’s girls team. The Majettes used the road trip to regroup and posted a strong 7-1 win over the Lady Midgets.

Minot High jumped on the scoreboard first with a Sydnee Barsch goal at the 2:15 mark in the first period with Fallon Fagerland on the assist. Fargerland added her own goal at the 7:02 mark with the assist by Brynn Hanson for the 2-0 lead. The first goal was an even strength shot while the second was a power play goal.

The Majettes had 17 shots on goal compared to seven by the Midgets. Dickinson had three penalties compared to one for Minot High in the first period of play.

Minot High started the second period with a Hanson goal at the 4:06 mark on a short handed, unassisted shot. At the 14:25 mark Ava Beda scored an even strength goal for the Majettes to take the 4-0 lead. Assists were awarded to Julia Stoner and Fagerland on the score.

Dickinson scored their one goal in the second at the 16:14 mark. The Lady Midgets outshot the Majettes 14-11 in the second period of play. Minot High had all four penalties in the second quarter.

Fagerland scored at the 4:42 mark of the third period of play with Kamryn Garaas on the assist for the 5-1 lead. Hanson hit her second goal at the 12:39 mark on a short handed, unassisted shot for the 6-1 lead. Yvonne Slind scored at the 13:20 mark with Hanson on the assist for the 7-1 final score.

Both teams had 14 shots on goal in the third period while Dickinson had two penalties compared to one for Minot High. Promesa Phelps tended the net for the Majettes and faced 35 shots with 34 saves for the win.

Minot High (8-4-1-2, 8-5-1-2 overall) sits at fifth in the standings and will host Mandan on February 6 with a trip to Devils Lake on February 13 for their next pair of games.
