Majettes beat Lady Blue Jays in physical contest at home

The top ranked Majettes opened the week with a Western Dakota Association (WDA) contest by hosting the Lady Blue Jays on Tuesday, January 7, at Minot High. The lower scoring contest was physical with Jamestown looking for the upset.

Minot would keep their record clean with the 59-40 win and improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in WDA play.

The Majettes jumped out in front early and led 6-0 in the first few minutes of the game. Jamestown fought back into the contest and actually took a 9-8 lead at the 11:41 mark of the first half.

The Majettes worked their shot selection, tempo and drove to collect fouls and free throws to build a 30-19 lead at the half.

The halftime adjustments allowed the Majettes to chip away at the game to begin the second half of play. Minot High traded 3-pointers for 2-point shots for Jamestown. The Majettes led 42-26 at the 11:20 mark of the second half of play.

In the last 11 minutes of play, Minot High outscored Jamestown 17-14 to maintain the buffer and take the 59-40 win.

Minot High sits at third in the WDA standings with the win as Bismarck Century and Mandan have each played one more conference game and are at 4-0 in WDA play while Mandan is at 7-0 overall as well.

Jamestown dropped to 0-4 in WDA play and 2-5 overall with only Dickinson at 0-4 in conference play with the Blue Jays.

The Majettes travel across town to face Minot North in the historic first varsity meeting between the two on the hardwood turf.

The Lady Sentinels traveled south and faced one of the three teams at the top of the WDA standings. With the win, Century moved to 4-0 atop the standings with Mandan at 4-0 as well.

Minot High has one fewer WDA games with a 3-0 mark in third place currently of the WDA standings. The Lady Sentinels will host the Majettes on Friday, January 10, in the historic first meeting as varsity teams.
