Magicians take 95-40 win over Williston at home

Minot High outscored Williston 51-16 in the first half on the way to the 95-40 win on Saturday, January 4, at the Minot High gym. In the first half of play, senior Aric Winczewski scored hit 1,000th point in his career as he hit the first of two three throws enroute to the win.

The boys basketball team scored early and often over the visitors and never were threatened in the game. The Magicians shot nearly 67-percent on two-pointers and 48-percent on three-pointers for the win. Minot High hit 15-for-20 from the freethrow line as well.

Williston only hit nearly 30-percent from two-point range and just over 13-percent from the arc in the effort. The Coyotes also hit 8-for-19 from the charity stripe.

Minot High had 30 points off turnovers, ten second chance points and 40 points in the paint. Williston had nine points off turnovers, two points in transition and 22 points in the paint.

The Magicians also had nine blocked shots compared to one for the Coyotes. Minot High also had 45 rebounds and 22 assists compared to 30 rebounds and four assists for Williston.

Four Magicians scored in the double digit range. Payton Schell led scoring with 19 points and five rebounds. Winczewski added 18 points, three rebounds and five assists in the game. Landon Bedell hit for 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks while Grayson Schaeffer added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists for Minot High.

Of the 12 players on the roster for the game, 11 players scored points and 11 players had rebounds in the win.

With the win, Minot High moves to 3-0 in Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings for the top spot and 6-0 overall and tied with Mandan and Bismarck Century at 3-0 in WDA and 6-0 overall as well.

The Magicians travel to Jamestown on Tuesday, January 7, for their next WDA contest and then travel across town to face Minot North on Friday, January 10, to close out the week.
