Magicians remain perfect on ice with road victory
BISMARCK – The Minot High boys hockey team traveled to Bismarck High to skate against the Demons in a Western Dakota Association (WDA) match and came home with the 8-2 win. The Magicians scored three in the first period, one in the second and four in the third period of play to remain unbeaten at 12-0 in WDA and 17-0 overall.
Mackley Morelli scored first for either team with an even strength goal at 3:31 in the first period. Easton Panasuk and Aidan Diehl were awarded the assists. Carter Coleman scored just over a minute later with Teegan Strand on the assist for the 2-0 lead. Morelli added goal number two at the 11:25 mark on a power play shot for the 3-0 lead. Strand and Panasuk were awarded the assists.
In the second period of play, Coen Schmeichel scored on an even strength goal at the 6:58 mark with Oliver Thompson and Brady Grosz on the assists for the 4-0 lead for Minot High. The Demons finally found the net on a short handed score at the 10:03 mark.
Panasuk scored the first goal of the third period at the 5:59 mark with Diehl on the assist. Grosz scored next for Minot High at the 13:02 mark for the 6-1 lead. Tate Haugenoe and Cole Richeson had the assists.
Morelli found the net for the hat trick at 13:59 of the third with Panasuk and Finlee Bentz on the assists. The final goal for Minot High was scored by Thompson at the 14:34 mark with Oliver Deschamp on the assist.
Minot High’s Devon Keller spent just over 41 minutes in goal, faced 18 shots with 17 saves while Maxim Hall spent just under ten minutes in goal and faced seven shots with six saves for the Magicians.
Minot High outshot Bismarck High 21=5 in the first, 20-11 in the second and 11-9 in the third period. The Magicians had six penalties in the game while the Demons had seven.
The Magicians will be at Fargo North Saturday, January 25, for a non-conference match and will be at Mandan on January 30 for their next WDA game.
