Magicians out skated, out scored Eagles on home ice

The Fargo Davies Eagles traveled to Minot to take on the hosting Magicians on Saturday, January 11, in a non-conference match. Despite scoring first and tying the game later, the visitors from Fargo were unable to pack a victory for the home return as Minot High took the 8-5 win in the end.

Fargo Davies got on the board first at the 3:18 mark on an even strength goal. Minot High answered at the 12:44 mark to tie the game at 1-1 when Tate Haugenoe found the net on the even strength effort. Josh Marsland and Hudson Cope were awarded the assists on the score.

The Eagles found the net at the 14:40 mark to carry the 2-1 lead into the second period of play. Each team had one penalty in the first period of play. Fargo recorded ten shots on goal compared to nine for Minot High.

The Magicians found the net at the 5:06 mark to tie the game when Mackley Morelli scored on a power play effort. Rylan Roteliuk and Aidan Diehl were awarded the assists on the play. Cole Erhart found the net at the 11:29 mark on an even strength shot for the 3-2 lead. Morelli and Easton Panasuk were awarded the assists on the effort.

Fargo Davies scored at the 13:18 mark to tie the game at 3-3. Teegan Strand took the lead back at the 14:49 mark on a power play goal. Roteliuk and Diehl were awarded the assists. Morelli found the net again for the second time in the period at the 16:31 mark for the 5-3 lead. The power play effort had Panasuk and Diehl on the assists.

Fargo had six penalties in the second period of play compared to one for Minot High. The Magicians recorded 12 shots on goal compared to five for the Eagles.

Minot High took a 6-3 lead at the 3:35 mark of the third period on an even strength shot by Oliver Thompson. Haugenoa and East Bradley were awarded the assists. Morelli hit for the hat trick at the 4:21 mark on an even strength shot. Finlee Bentz and Panasuk were awarded the assists on the 7-3 lead.

Fargo Davies posted a score at the 6:06 mark to narrow the lead and posted a second goal at the 7:24 mark.

Minot High found the net at the 15:57 mark by Cole Richeson on a power play shot with Carter Coleman and Paxton Packulak on the assists for the 8-5 win.

Fargo and Minot High swapped stats in the third period. The Eagles had one penalty while the Magicians had four. Fargo had 11 shots on goal while Minot High recorded nine. Devon Keller faced 26 shots in the game as the keeper for the Magicians and saved 21 of those.

Minot High moved to 13-0 overall and stayed at 8-0 in Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings at the top of the group. The Magicians hit the road this week with a trip to Williston on Tuesday, January 14, and to Jamestown on Friday, January 17, for their next two WDA contests.
