Magi beat Grand Forks in dual, win Minot Invite
Magic City Campus hosted the Minot Invite, a boys swim and dive meet. The Magi triumphed over the other teams present and as a team won by over 100 points. Minot High also had six individual wins through the 12 events.
The Magi won their first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay with Caden Brey, Peter Wake, Logan Hill and Gavin King. These four Magi won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.35 seconds. Minot High’s B team also placed fourth in this event.
The Minot High boys completely dominated the second event of the day, the 200 freestyle. Carter Larson for the Magi beat out teammates Luke Neumann and Isaiah Barthneck for the first place win. Larson with a 1:57.83 time in first and Neumann 1:58.84 in second, both state qualifying times. Bartneck fell just behind both teammates with a 1:08.58 time for first place.
The 200 IM did not belong to Minot High, the win went to Sam Eggl of Bismarck High School (BHS). Eggl won with an impressive 2:05.18 time, more than ten seconds faster to the second place winner. The Magi did have Derek Oswald in third and King in fourth in the 200 IM.
Minot High once again remained dominant in the 50 freestyle. Hill for the Magi took first place two tenths of a second faster than teammate Wake who took second in the 50 freestyle.
The Magi took the top three places in the 1-meter dive. Tayson Solper won the event with a final score of 431.20, teammates Holden Williams followed with the second place win for Minot High. Carson Nadeau finished out the event for the Magi with a third place finish.
BHS won the next two events, the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle. Barret Hannergrefs, an eighth grader from Minot High took second place in the 100 butterfly with a state qualifying time of 1:00.70. In the 100 freestyle the Magi took third place with Andrew Francis with time of 53.25, the Magi also had placers down though eighth place.
Hill and Larson placed again for Minot High in the 500 freestyle, which is ten back and forth laps in the pool. Hill finished in first with a 5:25.12 time followed by Larson in second with a 5:38.13 time.
Hill, Larson, Neumann and Francis made a second place win for the Magi in the freestyle relay. In the 400 freestyle relay Larson, Oswald, Neumann and Kind finished in first place for Minot High with a time of 3:36.71.
Minot High dropped both the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke to BHS. The Magi did put two placers in the 100 backstroke, Brey in second place and Francis in third. Ramiro Rodriguez finished out the meet for Minot High with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Minot High hosted the Grand Forks boys swim and dive team for a dual Friday, January 24. This dual against Grand Forks served as a warm-up for Minot High’s big win at the Minot Invite. The Magi won the dual 129-54. Minot High dominated with individual first place wins in nine of the 12 events.
