Lakers beat MonDak, drop dual to Honkers at Grenora
GRENORA – The Des Lacs-Burlington boys wrestling team took part in a pair of dual matches on Thursday, January 23, against MonDak and Kenmare-Bowbells. The Lakers split with one win and one loss on the night.
Des Lacs-Burlington 24, MonDak 12
The Lakers got their first team points at 121-pounds when Maverick Trowbridge took the win by decision (11-5) over Grayson Reid for three team points. At 127, Easton Hansen won by decision (10-9) over TJ Boyer for another three points.
Des Lacs-Burlington took wins at 152, 189 and 215 by forfeit for the 24 team total and the dual win over the Thunder. Neither team had reps at 139, 145, 160, 172 and 285 at the dual.
Kenmare-Bowbells 39, Des Lacs Burlington 21
The second match was between familiar foes. At 285, Jonathan Smith won by decision (11-3) over Delaney Feldman from Kenmare-Bowbells to give the Lakers four points to start the dual. The Honkers bounced back at 107 with Cam Peterson’s win by pin over the Lakers Cooper Rakness for six points.
At 114, Briggs Mogren pinned DLB’s Brody Hansen for the six points and the 12-4 lead. Cole Mogren added another six points to the Kenmare-Bowbells team score when he pinned Maverick Trowbridge at 121 for the Honkers 18-4 lead at that point in the match.
At 127, Conner Melin took the tight 3-0 win over Easton Hansen for another three points added to the Honkers lead at 21-4 points.
DLB’s Shawn Barrette narrowed the gap with a technical fall win (17-0) over Lleyton SPear at 133, giving the Lakers five points. At 139, Gage Holter pinned DLB’s Jamison Nelson in under a minute for another six Honker team points and the 27-9 lead.
Neither team had grapplers at the 145-lbs weight classification. The Honkers got three more points at 152 when William Cook won by decision (6-3) over DLB’s Breyden Buee and gave the Kenmare-Bowbells boys the 30-9 lead.
In the final four matchups, Kenmare-Bowbells Landan Speer at 160 won by decision (5-4) over DLB’s Jack Smith while Lincoln Spear pinned DLB’s Eli Buee at 172 for the Honkers team total of 39 points.
Des Lacs-Burlington’s Rylan Trowbridge took the forfeit win at 189 while Kenny Smith pinned Tucker Timm at 215 for the final points for the Lakers.
The Lakers will participate in a pair of duals against Larimore and May-Port-CG in Larimore on January 31, and extend that stay in Larimore for the Larimore Invitational on February 1.
The Honkers will be at the Northern Lights Quad today for their next grappling event.
