Lady Beavers drop two road games on the ice
FREMONT, Neb. – The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers women’s hockey team dropped game two of a two-game series against Midland University on Saturday, January 18, with a final score of 1-4. With the win, Midland improves to 17-4-1, while MSU moves to 16-7-2 on the season.
Midland took a 0-1 lead at 9:47 into the first period on a goal scored by Katie McNair. Midland extended their lead to 0-2 on a power play goal scored by Rylee Martin at 13:52 into the period.
The second period was a quiet 20 minutes of play as neither team was able to score a goal.
MSU cut the deficit to 1-2 on a goal scored by Cameron Schmidt and assisted by Makena Welby at 11:22 into the third period. Midland took a 1-3 lead at 18:16 into the period on an empty net goal scored by Callie Maguire.
Midland extended their lead to 1-4 on an additional empty net goal scored by Callie Maguire, her second goal of the game, at 19:41 into the period to secure the 1-4 victory for Midland.
Following the two-game series against Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action at home against Niagara University in a two-game series.
Game one is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, at 4:00 pm at the Maysa Arena (Eck Rink), and game two is scheduled for Sunday, January 26, at 2:00 pm at the Maysa Arena.

MSU Women’s Hockey 2
The MSU Beavers women’s hockey team dropped game one of a two-game series on Friday, January 17, against Midland University with a final score of 2-5.
Midland scored the lone goal in the first period, scored on the power play by Makenna Larson at 10:21 into the period to give Midland a 0-1 lead.
The Beavers knotted the game up at 1-1 on a goal scored by Makena Welby at 1:01 into the second period. Makenna Larson scored her second goal of the game at 11:47 into the period to give Midland a 1-2 lead. Midland extended their lead to 1-3 at 16:53 into the period on a goal scored by Grace Page.
Makenna Larson scored her third goal of the game on the power play to secure the hat trick at 15:30 into the third period to extend Midland’s lead to 1-4. Midland took a 1-5 lead on an empty net goal scored by Sydni Richards at 16:12 into the period. Addison Dyck scored a power play goal for the Beavers at 17:21 into the period to make the score 2-5. Midland would go on to hold the Beavers to two goals to secure the 2-5 victory.
Cameron Schmidt, Makenna Beard and Makena Welby were credited with assists in the game for the Beavers.
