Kenmare-Bowbells girls take road win over Our Redeemer’s hosts
The Lady Honkers made the trip to Minot to take on Our Redeemer’s girls basketball team. Kenmare-Bowbells held the No. 2 spot in the Division B polls for the state to start the game.
Despite a strong start by the Lady Knights, the visitors demonstrated where the ranking came from with the 60-36 road win.
Our Redeemer’s started out strong and rode the energy to keep pace with the higher ranked team. The Lady Honkers led 9-8 with 4:26 left in the first quarter of play. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Knights led 17-15 due to the effort.
Kenmare-Bowbells settled and began to work the inside game and pressure defense. With less than two minutes gone in the second quarter, Kenmare-Bowbells had a 7-0 run for the 24-17 lead and four minutes later, another 9-0 run for the 33-17 lead. With the 16-2 run in the second quarter, the visitors held the 35-19 lead going into halftime.
The Lady Honkers hit the hardwood in to start the second half and kept adding to the lead with a 42-22 mark with 3:10 to play in the third quarter, a 47-29 lead at the end of the third and a 60-31 lead with 2:32 left to play in the game,
Kenmare-Bowbells had their bench cleared the rest of the game for the younger players to gain court time.
Our Redeemer’s currently are at sixth in District 6 standings at 2-2 while the loss moved them to 5-6 overall. The Lady Knights host Harvey-Wells County on Monday, January 13, followed by a road trip to TGU on Friday, January 17, for this week’s action.
Kenmare-Bowbells moved to 10-2 overall with the win and sits at 3-0 in District 5 play and sit at fourth in the current standings for the district. The Lady Honkers will be at Trenton on Saturday, January 18, for their next game.
Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 63, TGU 62
In a tightly contested game between District 6 teams, TGU lost a narrow battle to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood as the Lady Mavericks held off the Lady Titans at home.
With the win, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood moved to 4-1, 7-5 overall, and gained ground on TGU in the district standings. The Lady Mavericks host Glenburn on Tuesday, January 14, and Harvey-Wells County on Friday, January 17, in two more District 6 matchups this week.
TGU dropped to 3-1 in district play and 8-4 overall. The Lady Titans travel to face the district leaders in Berthold on Tuesday and host Our Redeemer’s on Friday in an effort to stay in second place in the district standings.
