Honkers boys hit wall against Knights at ORCS

Kari Gibb/MDN Kenmare-Bowbells senior Cohen Seime (2) works the ball up the court against Our Redeemer’s junior Collin Swenson (35) in Division B, Region 3 basketball on Saturday, January 11, at the Our Redeemer’s Christian School.

The Kenmare-Bowbells boys basketball team sits at the fifth slot in Region 3, District 5 standings. The Honkers made the trip to take on the Knights at the Our Redeemer’s Christian School on Saturday, January 11, who also are in the fifth slot- but in Region 3, District 6 instead.

In the battle of the fifth place teams, the hosts proved the stronger ‘five team’ with the 75-44 win.

The Knights jumped out to an early lead in their home gym, building to a 14-6 mark with 3:32 left in the first quarter of play. The shooting percentages favored the home team. Knowing the court also helped Our Redeemer’s in limiting miscues such as stepping on the out of bounds lines on their home court.

The athletic nature of the Honkers allowed for Kenmare-Bowbells to chip away at the lead. The rest of the first quarter, the Honkers went on a 10-6 run and the Knights held a 20-16 lead at the end of the first quarter of play.

Our Redeemer’s used high energy to start the second quarter of play and quickly jumped back out to a 26-16 lead. Mistakes by the visitors and shooting success by the home team led to a 41-23 half time score for the 19 point advantage for the hosts.

Adjustments made at the half by both teams kept the margin in the double digits throughout the quarter and the Knights led 60-35 at end of the third.

Our Redeemer’s moved to 7-1 with the win. The Knights host the Harvey-Wells County Hornets on Tuesday, January 14, and travel to face TGU on Thursday, January 16, this week.

Kenmare-Bowbells moved to 3-3 on the season with the loss. The Honkers host Ray on Tuesday, January 14, and travel to Trenton on Saturday, January 18, for this week’s action.

Starting at $2.99/week.
