Benson County, Rugby go 2-0 at Hoopster Classic
The 2024 Hoopster Classic wrapped up for the girls teams on Wednesday, December 31, and two teams went 2-0 for their New Year’s eve celebration.
Benson County, ranked as the top Division B team in the latest polls, and Rugby posted 2-0 records while Nedrose and Des Lacs-Burlington each went 1-0 with the Cardinals winning on day one and the Lakers taking the win on day two.
Des Lacs-Burlington 54, TGU 48
The Lakers jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the first quarter of play and outscored the Titans in each quarter of play. Des Lacs-Burlington led 28-23 at the half enroute to the win.
The Lakers were led by Kaylee Werner with 17 points in the win. Ava Brown had 16 points while Logen Ystaas added ten in the effort.
Ashley Martodam led all scoring with 24 points in the game. Bostyn Bailey added 12 points for the Lady Titans.
Rugby 36,
Beulah 18
The Lady Panthers led 7-2 after one quarter of play in a slow start to the offense for each team. Rugby warmed up in the second and led the Miners 19-4 at the half. Rugby led 26-12 after three quarters of play enroute to the second win of the event for the Panthers.
Rugby had seven players score with Avery Santjer hitting eight while Katie Sullivan had seven points for the Lady Panthers.
Beulah was led by Malayah Williams with eight points while Tori Zieman added five in the effort. Beulah scored 34 points in the loss to Nedrose on day one and 18 points on day two in the loss to Rugby.
Our Redeemer’s 66,
St. John 58
In an evenly contested game, the Knights led the Woodchucks 17-15 after one quarter of play and widened the lead to 37-23 at the half.
Our Redeemer’s dropped their first game on day one to the top ranked Wildcats from Benson County and posted the 1-1 record with the win on day two.
Kadyn Braun led the Knights with 23 points in the game. Lauren Strom hit for for 15 while Brooklyn Roedocker added ten for Our Redeemer’s. Noel Pankratz added eight points as well.
St. John split games with a win on day one over Bishop Ryan and the loss on day two to Our Redeemer’s.
St. John was led by Kennley Davis with 15 points while Kalli Keplin added 14 points. Jaydee McCloud and Meadow Lunday each added eight points in the effort.
Benson County 52,
Velva 28
The Wildcats beat Our Redeemer’s on day one scoring 57 points and followed that up with 52 points on day two with the win over the Lady Aggies.
The top ranked Wildcats led 27-7 after one quarter of play and 38-13 at the half. Benson County went deep into the bench in the second half of play to give hardcourt time to the younger players.
Benson County was led by Aubrey Kenner with 22 points. Kaitlyn Maddock and Lacie Fautsch each added 11 points in the win.
Velva’s Evalyn Selzler led the Lady Aggies with 11 points. Leah Colochenko added six points in the effort.
