UND football announces Fruechte as Offensive Coordinator
GRAND FORKS. – University of North Dakota (UND) head football coach Eric Schmidt announced Isaac Fruechte as his offensive coordinator on Friday morning. Fruechte will serve as both the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“I’m excited to announce Isaac and his family are staying at UND,” said Coach Schmidt. “Isaac has consistently produced highly effective offenses and through his leadership has excelled in developing players. I know he will continue to do that here.”
Fruechte originally joined the Fighting Hawks this past January and helped UND have the No. 15 red-zone scoring offense in the FCS, scoring points 89.6 percent of the time when reaching the red-zone.
Fruechte’s offense also currently ranks No. 20 in third down conversion percentage (45.6 percent), No. 20 in time of possession (31:32) and No. 25 rushing offense (186.9 yards per game). In 2024, UND piled up over 400 yards of offense three times, highlighted by 601 yards in the 72-35 win over Murray State.
Prior to joining UND, Fruechte’s stops include Winona State, Northern State, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin-La Crosse. He spent two seasons (2015-17) as a wide receiver with the Minnesota Vikings and also had a six-game stint with the Detroit Lions in 2016. During his collegiate playing career, he spent three seasons at receiver at Minnesota (2012-14).
Fruechte is the first coach to be hired for Coach Schmidt’s staff. Further hires will be announced in the coming weeks.
Fruechte and his wife (Kenzie) have two sons (Ike and Zeke) and they currently reside in Grand Forks.
