Seven games on day two of the Hoopster Classic
On day two of the Dale Brown Hoopster Classic on Saturday, December 28, at the MSU Dome, two new teams took the place of two teams missing from day one.
Bishop Ryan and Des Lacs-Burlington boys won both their games on Friday while TGU and Stanley took those slots on day two with both losing their only games at the event.
Thompson 45, Stanley 37
Des Lacs-Burlington upset the fifth ranked Tommies on Friday, and Stanley worked to do the same on Saturday only to be edged by Thompson.
Both teams started slowly in the scoring portion of the game with the Tommies holding a 9-4 lead after the first quarter of play. The Blue Jays narrowed that Thompson lead to 20-17 at the half.
Halfway through the third quarter, Stanley took a 23-21 lead and day two looked like it might be the same upset for the Blue Jays as the Miners on day one. The Tommies regained their game plan and tempo to take a 35-30 lead into the final quarter of play.
Powers Lake-Central Burke 59, TGU 46
The Ranchers lost to the fourth ranked Division B team in the state on day one and rebounded to take down TGU on day two.
Dickinson Trinity 45, Rugby 31
On day one, Four Winds-Minnewaukan posted a 22 point margin of victory over Dickinson Trinity and on day two, Trinity rebounded with a 14 point win over the Rugby Panthers.
Rugby lost to Beulah on day one to complete the Hoopster Classic with the 0-2 record.
Beulah 52, Four Winds-Minnewaukan 48
The Miners posted a 2-0 record for the two day Hoopster Classic with the day one victory over Rugby and the day two win over Four Winds-Minnewaukan in the closest contest of the two day event.
Four Winds-Minnewaukan took the 1-1 record from the two day event.
Velva 81, St. John 57
The Aggies ranked eighth in Division B posted solid wins on day one over North Prairie and on day two over St. John for the 2-0 record at the Hoopster Classic.
North Prairie ended the event with the 0-2 record as St. John did the same.
Westhope-Newburg 85, Hazen 40
Last year’s Division B state champions won on day one over Powers Lake-Burke Central and on day two over Hazen. Westhope-Newburg is currently ranked at four in the most recent coaches polls and showed speed, shooting ability and defense in both wins at the event.
Hazen lost both games with the Ranchers going 1-1 at the MSU Dome.
Our Redeemer’s 63,
North Prairie 42
The tenth ranked Division B Knights from Our Redeemer’s Christian School posted a 2-0 record at the Hoopster Classic with a day one win over Hazen by 18 points and a day two win over North Prairie by 21 points.
Those wins would look better if Hazen and North Prairie had not gone 0-2 each at the event.
Our Redeemer’s will put their ranking to the test on January 10 when they host Westhope-Newburg in a top ten clash.
