Nedrose, Garrison take wins to move on

Kari Gibb/MDN Nedrose senior Lilly Nelson (1) drives past Minot High sophomore Leah Dokken (32) in day two, game four action at the Nedrose Tournament on Thursday at Nedrose High.

The second play-in day for the Nedrose Tournament featured two games. Our Redeemer’s Christian School played Garrison in the early game while the Minot High Sophomores faced the hosting Nedrose Cardinals in the later game.

Surrey will battle Berthold in the 6 p.m. winners bracket game today while North Prairie will take on Stanley at 3 p.m. in the consolation bracket for the tournament.

Garrison 55, Our Redeemer’s 39

Garrison led early and had nearly doubled the point total for the Knights by the half with a 29-15 lead to start the third quarter of play. The defensive effort by the Troopers helped keep Our Redeemer’s from narrowing the gap to lead 43-28 with one quarter to play.

With the win, Garrison will face Nedrose today at 7:30 p.m. in game eight at the tournament.

Four games will be played today with four games on Saturday as well.

Nedrose 53, Minot High Sophomores 50

Both teams started the game with early season mistakes and missed shots. Traveling calls, lost passes and hesitation on ball movement led to turnovers and mistakes that kept the game close with Nedrose leading 15-14 after the first quarter of play.

The upper class leadership from the hosting Cardinals helped focus Nedrose in the second quarter as the Lady Cardinals surged to a 30-22 halftime lead.

Despite improved play by both teams after the coaching adjustments at the half, Nedrose was able to keep the gap and increase the lead to 41-31 after three quarters of play.

With the win, Nedrose will face Garrison today while the Minot High Sophomores will play Our Redeemer’s at 4:30 p.m. in the consolation bracket as well.
