Caleb Van De Griend

Minot State University (MSU) junior forward Caleb Van De Griend led the way for the Beavers to a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) road wins with double-doubles both nights, earning him NSIC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Van De Griend averaged 21 points and 16 rebounds in the two wins and shot 78.3 percent (18-of-23) for the weekend. The back-to-back double-doubles give him four consecutive double-doubles and 11 in 15 games this season.

Friday, in a 76-52 upset at No. 6 Minnesota State Moorhead, Van De Griend had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the 12th-ranked Beavers.

Saturday, in a 64-58 win at Northern State, Van De Griend led the way with 24 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

The honor is the second for Van De Griend who was named Player of the Week on December 2, as well, and has been named to the NSIC’s weekly Shining Five five times this season.

Van De Griend and the rest of the 12th-ranked MSU men’s basketball team (15-0 overall, 6-0 NSIC) return to action after the holiday break when the Beavers host Winona State on Friday, January 3, at 7:30 pm, and defending national champion Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday, January 4, at 5:30 pm at the MSU Dome.
