MSU men achieve program’s highest NCAA ranking
A home sweep not only kept the Minot State University (MSU) men’s basketball team undefeated on the season, but Tuesday the Beavers achieved their highest-ever ranking in the program’s NCAA Division II era.
The NSIC-leading Beavers (11-0 overall, 3-0 NSIC) landed at No. 13 in the nation in this week’s NABC Top 25 poll, garnering 205 points in the voting by the nation’s coaches.
MSU made its NCAA Top 25 debut last season and climbed as high as No. 16 in the nation. The Beavers moved back into the national rankings this season hitting the No. 20 spot in last week’s poll.
The Beavers climbed seven spots this week after a 91-58 home win Friday over St. Cloud State and an 81-79 victory on Saturday over Bemidji State.
The 13th-ranked MSU men are back in action Wednesday as they head to the state capital to play rival Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. The men tipped off at 7:30 p.m. against the Marauders following the women’s game, which started at 5:30 p.m.
The Beavers are one of two NSIC teams ranked in the NABC Top 25 coaches poll, joining Minnesota State Moorhead which moved up one spot this week to No. 6 in the nation with 303 points.
Southwest Minnesota State, Winona State, and Minnesota Duluth all were in the “others receiving votes” category.
The top four spots in this week’s poll remained unchanged with Nova Southeastern (Fla.) at No. 1 followed by West Texas A&M at No. 2, Washburn (Kan.) at No. 3, and West Liberty (W.V.) at No. 4.
