Minot High girls drop home match to Estevan
The Estevan girls hockey team crossed the border and visited Minot to play the Majettes on Friday, November 29, and had to claim a 3-2 win at customs on the way home.
Estevan started the scoring with a goal at the 9:18 mark of the first period by Ella Schenher on an assist by Bostyn Runge for the 1-0 lead. Less than 30-seconds later, Brynn Hanson hit the net off a Kamryn Garaas assist for the 1-1 tie.
At the 4:51 mark of the second period, Hanson hit the net for her second goal from an Yvonne Slind pass for Minot High to take the 2-1 lead over the visitors from the north. Runge scored her second goal of the match at the 9:27 mark of the second to even the match at 2-2 on the first power play score of the game. Tyra Kmita and Alex Reid were credited with the assists.
The tie was broken in the third period when Runge passed the puck to Samara Seghers for her goal on a power play at the 13:17 mark of the final period for the 3-2 win over the Majettes.
There were no penalties in the first period and the Majettes had two in the second period. Minot High had three penalties compared to one for Estevan in the third period of play.
Minot High goalie Promesa Phelps faced 23 shots and stopped 20 of those. Estevan goalie Myra Field faced 20 shots and stopped 18 in the game.
After two matches to start the season, Hanson has five goals and two assists to lead the Majettes. Teammate Sydnee Bartsch has one goal and two assists while Garaas has two assists for the team.
The Majettes host Bismarck Legacy-Bismarck High on Tuesday, December 3, at Maysa Arena and travel to play Fargo North-South on Friday, December 6, for their next Western Dakota Association (WDA) action this week.
